BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

Recently I've noticed a drop in performance on my BB connection and occassionaly at night or rather the early hours of the morning ( 00.30 - 02.30 hrs) the service just stops for maybe 5 or ten minutes then starts again. Angry

I've attached the speed test results and there seems to be a real drop off in speed since I changed over to Plusnet.  BT are promising all sorts of wonderous speeds if I change back to them and I get a few months free thrown in.
Upload is particularly slow when I'm trying to upload photos etc to Flickr for example. Huh

Does https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate say your current line speed is 14.7?
You also need to ask Plusnet to uncap your upload speed.

To Plusnet staff: why on earth was this user provisioned with the upload capped? Looking at the stats it's absolutely ridiculous!

Re: BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

Hi Jelv.
What tells you that my upload speed is capped? and what speed should I get if it's uncapped?
Thanks but I'm a beginner at the BB technicalities.

Thanks in advance.

Re: BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

The upload sync speed of 443. When it's uncapped it should be twice as fast (or more).
Did you look to see what https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate said?

Re: BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

Do you connect to the router wired or wireless? If it's wireless can you see what you get wired.
Another thing to try: go in to the router and somewhere there is an option to disconnect. Do that and leave it for around 20 seconds and then reconnect (don't reboot as that drops sync with the exchange, disconnect/reconnect doesn't). Only try this once if it doesn't do anything first time another go won't help.

Hi Wingco39 ,
I've checked your connection and it is running at the correct speed your connection has also been very stable. As jelv mentioned are you connected wired or wireless?Huh
I've also placed an order to uncap your upload speed as it makes sense too.

Re: BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for checks. At the moment I'm running a wireless connection from a desktop PC but I'll fire up the wife's laptop and connect to the router via RJ45 lead and will then post the results here.
Regards.

Re: BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

Well chaps,
Don't know what to think now. Laptop has no provision for an RJ45 connection, it's wireless only. Anyway sat very close to the router  ::), so a great signal and ran the BT test got 12.2 down and 0.980 up so that looked a bit better but still nothing to get too excited about. Came back to the desktop PC as per last night and ran the BT tests again - not great 11.2 down and 0.30 up. Upload speed seems to be worse now  Shocked
As a matter of interest I've attached a graph which shows the deterioation of the connection speeds on this PC over a couple of years. OK OK I know it's not the official BT test but forget the actual speeds just look at the deterioration.  Cry
So I'm not too happy, think I'll try a couple of TP Link devices to link the PC to the router and see if that makes any difference.
Regards,
PS How long does it take for the upload cap to come off?

Unusual.  I have seen laptops that appear to be like that but the connection was underneath a hinged plastic cover.

There appears to be one connection on the side of the laptop for a dial-up modem. See Device Mgr pic attached - not sure what the M/Soft miniport adapter is though?

Mo mention of modems in Device Manager.  Or non-wifi network adaptors.  Bit of a mystery.  What is the laptop make and model?

Re: BB Speed issues and Service Drop outs at night.

Looks to me like it has an ethernet port from the following document
http://documents.knowhow.com/Computing/AdventQuantum200IconGuide.pdf
Might be worth downloading the drivers and seeing if it recognises the port and also check that it is not disabled in the BIOS
