BB Outages early 2 May

I see my BB went down twice during the early hours of 2 May. I've now been migrated from pcl-ag02 to ptn-ag01.

Same here, same times, and each also followed by a couple of "authentication" errors as well.

Message: As part of an on-going programme to upgrade the 21C Network, between February and March 2014 to cater for increasing capacity we will be replacing our Broadband Aggregator switches with bigger, higher capacity switches. This message is to inform you that on the 02/05/2013 00:00:01- 02/05/2013 06:00:00 BT Operate will be upgrading the Bristol WBC/WBMC aggregation node. We are upgrading the hardware of the BEA (Broadband Ethernet Aggregator) which aggregates all the 21CN WBC/WBMC BRAS's at Bristol. The PEW will start at 00:01 when we will take away resilience only till 02:00 (So no service impact between 00:00 and 02:00). Then at 02:01 we will be migrating over . There will be up to 1 hour of outage between 02:01 and 04:30. Service will be back between 03:00 and 04:30 but running on a single switch. Full resilience will be restored between 05:30 and 06:00. There will then be short service outage between 05:30 - 06:00 while we test the resilience of the virtual switch.

@Oldjim As it says... "The notices below are from our suppliers" exactly the same suppliers as Plusnet's

Thanks Jim, I'm in that collection. Obviously it was a waste of time my signing up with PN to receive email warnings of such maintenance.  Undecided

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

see http://usertools.plus.net/status/ you can get the RSS feed if you want, or there is a link in the box on the right for email updates. I personally use the RSS feed and use other assorted links if I want to investigate in further depth.
There is also http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php on usertools, click on the relevant title to get more detail.

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

That's very detailed, explained exactly what happened when my connection went offline yesterday - at 02:01. Plusnet needs to give that same info out, if they can get it

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

We get the information yes, it's in email form. There'd need to be some development work done to display that information somewhere (also TBC). Do the service status posts we make at the start of the week not provide enough visibility of the larger works taking place?

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

@Chris there's definitely not enough detail about the area codes that will/could be affected as in the Zen information, for example:
Plusnet:
2nd May
Newcastle, Bristol and London Colindale
Although these are the areas we have been notified of, due to the nature of the broadband network these outages may affect customers nationwide. There are also a number of smaller exchange works most nights of the week that may cause smaller outages at individual exchanges.
Zen:
Area Codes: 01142 01173 01179 01202 01208 01209 01225 01237 01249 01275 01278 01288 01305 01326 01329 01364 01373 01380 01425 01454 01458 01489 01503 01548 01566 01579 01590 01626 01637 01643 01666 01672 01706 01726 01736 01749 01752 01761 01793 01803 01822 01837 01840 01841 01872 01929 01934 01983 01985 02380 02392
Guess which information I might find more useful  Roll_eyes

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

That's because we summarise rather than post every single potential outage, if we put all the area codes in the summary service status then it'd be crazy big!
Without development work to parse the emails, changing how we do this really isn't a simple thing. Happy to keep it in mind if I can find any upcoming project or dev work I can shoehorn it into though.

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

Errr, umm, that Zen list of area codes doesn't look crazy big Wink However, whether is worth considering putting the detail on a separate page which you get by clicking the link on the main summary -  a bit like the MSO page for example.

Re: BB Outages early 2 May

Yes, but that's 1 piece of work that Zen have posted. For example last night there were around 25/30 (minimum) Planned Engineering Works. Each of these can have multiple dialling codes on it. That's why we summarise the larger pieces of work at the moment and give a general idea of the outages rather than full specifics. As I said, I'll try to get the development work for this squeezed in somewhere but I can't make any promises.
