Asus DSL-N66U initial experience

Hi All
Got my new router fired up a short while ago...............yes, I know midday is best
However, when DSL first established it showed ADSL2+ with sync of 3894 though very oddly the Attenuation was 75db (NB my old Netgear reported 55db) the SNR down is about the same at under 3db.
This initial connection lasted approx. 4mins before it was dropped and re initialised on ADSL2 with a sync of 3794..........................hang on I will report back as it keeps dropping!  Not sure what is going on as the Netgear never behaved this way?

Hi there, I bought the exact same router about 3 weeks ago and it just kept dropping the connection ever few mins, very angering, in the end I ended up just returning the router to where I bought it, the internet seems full of people complaining about this router having similar issues.

Oh! I did not spot those reports but to say the least it is very odd.....................even I have realised identifying the Mode as PPPoE not oA but still connecting???
Now back on the Netgear 
Looks like a rethink is needed???  But what DSL & Fibre one to get???
