Are these reasonable line stats?

Herer's the router report:
Line mode G.dmt  Line state Show Time
Latency Type Interleave  Line Up Time 00:02:14:02
Line Coding Trellis On  Line Up Count 2

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 1216 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 18.3 dB 18.0 dB
Line Attenuation 52.0 dB 31.5 dB
Output Power 15.7 dBm 12.3 dBm
This is in the engineer test socket. Should I expect better? I was able to get a D/L speed of 1800 kbps in the past. Had a lot of dtops recently, and currently have an ongoing ticket. I was wondering what I should expect from these figures?

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

That's truly awful, you should be getting nearer 4mbps.  Shocked
There are strong hints of local wiring problems there, can you try again in the BT Test Socket?
Edit: Just realised you're there already.  Huh

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Could it be a router issue? Openreach engineer got 3.6 Mpbs when he connected. I have tried 2 different routers though. Engineer claimed line was steady, but didn't hang around for long. I'm getting drops at least a couple of times per day even in the test socket.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

How are you plugging the router into the test socket? The connector on the router cable is different to the telephone socket, so you would need to be using an adaptor or a filter. If you are using the same filter to connect the two routers then try swapping that for a new one.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

I've done the lot-changed filters, plugged directly into test socket with modem type cable and so on. Just recycled the router and here's the latest stats:
Line mode G.dmt  Line state Show Time
Latency Type Interleave  Line Up Time 00:00:05:42
Line Coding Trellis On  Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 1600 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 15.2 dB 19.0 dB
Line Attenuation 52.0 dB 31.5 dB
Output Power 16.6 dBm 12.3 dBm
MResults from Mybroadbandspeed gives D/L 1027 kbps and upload 378 kbps.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Just fitted an ADSL nation BTE-5 faceplate, isolating the adsl line. Stats are identical to the post above. Does this confirm an issue with the line coming in to the house?

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Bt speed test results (master socket with BTE-5 faceplate fitted:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 1600 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 867 kbps
Very annoyed!

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

What is killing your speed is the SNRM of 15db. It look like it has already dropped from a 18db margin when you had a sync rate of 1212kbps to 15db with a sync rate of 1600kbps. So an option is to leave to your router/modem on 24/7 and see whether in a weeks time whether the DLM has reduced the margin.

I also assume that the BT engineer told you what the attainable rate was on his modem and not the actual sync speed.  Currently my modem is syncing at 2620kbps but the attainable (max) rate is 4028kbps.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Yes, the engineer said the Max rate was 3.6 Mbps, he was synching at 2.5 Mbps. I'll leave the modem on and see what happens with the SNR, but it's rarely dropped below 15 dB over the last couple of months.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

If BT modem was syncing at 2.5Mbps and yours at only 1.6Mbps then it probably is worth you trying a different one.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Changed over to Linksys router-D/L is 1664 kbps, U/L is 448 kpbs.
Also noticed that interleaving is on (can see it on the connection settings page in the member centre).  Last time it was switched on it halved my speed. Speed test using mybroadbandspeed is now only 300 kbps. It was 1000 kbps at 7am this morning, 500 at 12 noon and 420 at 4pm! What the heck is going on???

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

What's the weather like where you are? Its tipping it down here at the moment. Seriously, your problem might be a corroded connection somewhere between your house and the exchange, and bad weather can make it worse.

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Been raining all day, but only drizzle really.
Bt test stats at 8.30pm:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 1568 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 188 kbps
It's getting worse! Maybe it is the rain!

Re: Are these reasonable line stats?

Nobody seems to have asked the question.
Have you tried the quiet line test - dial 17070 option 2
If there is crackling etc. try it without the router connected. If it is still there you should raise a voice fault with your phone provider
