Anything Wrong?

Been a little concerned about my P2P speeds for quite some time, done a fair bit of research both on this rather useful forum available to us PN users, and via google, done everything suggested within my P2P client (Utorrent) to no, or very little avail.
My downspeeds are painfully slow with basically every torrent I try, barely scrapping 700kB/s.
Hope this information is of any use.

Re: Anything Wrong?

Pretty sure my units are correct, left my torrent running overnight as I usually do, this ones a 25GB torrent and in 5.8hrs I've downloaded 11.9GB, avg speed 680kB/s.
Just doesn't seem overly speedy to myself, these sorts of speeds are very common for what I'm seeing, taking a rather long time for large downloads to complete.

Re: Anything Wrong?

A quick calculation
11.9GB = 11.9 x 1,000,000 kB = 11.9 x 1,000,000 x 8 kb = 95,200,000 kb
5.8 hours = 5.8 x 3,600 secs = 20,880 secs
Speed 95,200,000 / 20,880 = 4559kbps
and 680kB/s is 5440 kb/s

Better screenshot of my Utorrent, where I was getting my numbers from, chances are I was getting something slightly wrong.

Re: Anything Wrong?

Your upload is maxing out from the looks of things, it might be worthwhile capping it on uTorrent to see if this gives your connection a little more breathing room?

Re: Anything Wrong?

I read something similar about capping the upload a while ago and it is currently capped at 70kB/s, my understanding is that this should be a low enough speed to make sure my line isn't saturated with upload...but I could easily be wrong Smiley
Thanks for the replies

Re: Anything Wrong?

I suggest you install NetWorX (download is at the bottom of the page) to allow you to monitor the actual traffic. That will allow you to check the upload cap is working.

Re: Anything Wrong?

Installed NetWorX at your recommendation and done a bit of watching and the upload cap I set in Utorrent does appear to be working correctly.

Re: Anything Wrong?

I suggest the next step would be to try setting the upload cap to around 12kB/s (i.e. about 10% of your upload speed)
