Any update on plusnet's content filter option?

Plusnet's parent company, BT, provided an internet content filter option at the beginning of 2014 and at the time PlusNet said they were going to provide one as well, but i have not seen anything about it since  - unless i missed an announcement.
Any news on this option and when it might be available?
Thanks

No announcement yet - but why don't you use OpenDNS's free filter http://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/ ?

Hi chappers1,
We don't really have a provisional date for this just yet. My apologies.

I for one will not ! want any type of content filter .
i am sensible enough to decide what i see or read without any Big Brother trying to tell what i can do , most probably it wont work or will block things incorrectly

Re: Any update on plusnet's content filter option?

I use openDNS - it's not a content filter as such, just stops you accidentally accessing dodgy websites (by mistyping a URL, accidentally clicking on the wrong "Download" button on a website, phising email etc). Also has a bit of an effect on malware as it defeats any "phone home" type functionality.
You can set preferences by content type group, and If it does block something you want to see then it's easy to login and add an exception so pretty unintrusive.

it'll be opt-in so no need to get your knickers in a twist.
you can remove that tin foil hat now.

Given only 5% of  BT users opt in indicates there is little demand for such filters or better options are available

Thanks for the reply, does this mean its going to be avaialble? i read that all UK ISP's would have an adult content filter option by the end of 2014.
so i have not gone the openDNS route.
When you have kids its easier to understand why people might want this option available. Wink

Hi chappers1,
I'll see if I can grab an update on this for you, we released details earlier in the year to say we we're aiming for implementing this by the end of 2014 but we may have further details to share on this. I'll update this thread as soon as I have some more information back from the person leading this project.

I do and I wouldn't entrust my kids safety to any ISP implementation.
