Any current problems with the BT Speedtester??

Morning folks,
I tried to run a BT speedtest twice yesterday and have just tried again within the last 10 mins on all ocassions the tester appeared to run but then halted after the 100% test but before sending any results to server and hung and reported a error had occured.
Any thoughts ........... the BTSpeedtest site suggests if problem persists contact ISP (PN).

Yes same problem for a few days now, if it would just display the IP profile first and not last as that is the only reason I use it.  I use thinkbroadbands tester to get a real speedtest result

Which version of Java are you using? I had the "failing to complete" problem after an update to the previous 6.x version but updating to 7.x fixed the problem.

Re: Any current problems with the BT Speedtester??

Try http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/
You have to run the first test which just gives you your up and down speed and latency and then at the bottom of the results page you will find a Further Diagnostics button which runs the full test and gives you your IP profile.

Re: Any current problems with the BT Speedtester??

I'm pretty sure that the Further Diagnostics goes to to the same tester as the old one does - see here. I suspect dvvrue95 will find it fails just the same.
PS. I trust you are all aware of the JRE security issues, oh and the tester can work fine with jre-6u33, 6u32 and 7u5 by the way.

Re: Any current problems with the BT Speedtester??

Hi,
well left things for a day and guess what  Roll_eyes BT Speedtester appears to be working again but as usual PN
profile is lower than BT.
Anyone from PN able to nudge my PN profile up? 1.3 would be fine yes that's right only 1.3 but at these
speeds every little helps  Smiley

Re: Any current problems with the BT Speedtester??

OK, got this down to two machines, one works, 2nd fails, doing about:plugins on each:
Working: Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0
   File: /usr/lib/j2re1.6-ibm/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so
   Version:
The next generation Java plug-in for Mozilla browsers.
Broken:  (yep broken has two  ... one comes from $HOME/mozilla/plugins ... the other from /usr/lib/firefox/plugins)
   Java(TM) Plug-in 1.7.0_03
   File: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-sun/jdk1.7.0_03/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
   Version:
The next generation Java <http://java.sun.com> plug-in for Mozilla
   browsers.
...
   Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_26
   File: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.26/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
   Version:
The next generation Java <http://java.sun.com> plug-in for Mozilla
   browsers.
So Java7 flavour is broken? ... anyone have details ... ie is there a Sun bug report?

Re: Any current problems with the BT Speedtester??

See my reply #6. Also, whether the latest updates to 1.6 & 1.7 have fixed the security issues Secunia have been warning about, I haven't yet discovered.
