Any chance of bringing start of umetered usage forward 30 minutes?

Hi
I like to use my free usage for mundane but necessary system maintenance stuff like downloading updates but 'tis a real pain that you have to wait till midnight to kick these downloads off.
Any chance of bringing the start forward to 23.30?

Absolutely none I'm afraid.
there are various pieces of software that will allow you to schedule downloads however, especially if you're talking from a P2P/Usenet perspective.

Don't go near P2P/usenet, am talking about legitimate things such as Linux packages or Windows updates
Any reason why not? Is usage still quite high at that time?

Yep.  The network is always busy barring a few hours overnight.  Put simply, it would cost us a large amount of revenue if we were to merely remove half a peak hour.  Not to mention the development costs associated (although thyey wouldn't be that great).
Have a look at the graph towards the bottom of this page.

Ok fair enough, thought there was no harm in asking.
Wait a minute why has my speed dropped to 256 Kbps, was only asking a question {JOKE]

Not all P2P is copy righted stuff. in fact now days alot of software companys/up starts use P2P as a way to reduce load on there servers.
When will P2P stop being a dirty word. or do isp's make sure P2P never becomes a pleasent word just because of the bandwidth it consumes.
My self think the word car is a dirty word as for the amount of oil the things consume. Crazy

Hi Asbo
You hit the nail on the head.
I have a real problem with coporates using bandwidth I pay for to distribute files and reduce their bandiwdth costs or to scale back what they need in terms of server hardware.
That is wrong, hence the reason I uninstall 4oD promptly after using it

Never said usenet was illegal.
I just said I don't use it because of the propogation of viruses etc via that route.
I use my home PC thats connected to PN for banking so try to ensure that the security on my PC is as watertight as possible, I also dont go near risky parts of the net.

Re: Any chance of bringing start of umetered usage forward 30 minutes?

I have never had a virus from those places but I do have good software that protects my computer very well.
I thought there was lots of places you could get viruses from. Just being on the internet has the risk of viruses doesn't it?
