I've had this before but I've had to start a new thread.
Mornings are ok - speed up to 4Mb but evening speed drops to less than 1Mb - at the moment it's not making 500k.
The previous issue seemed to be a mistaken throttling of my speed.

Now i sometimes get these mixed up. The old Broadband Premier has a peak time limit of 20GB if i recall correctly with restrictions applied at 13/17 and then 128K at 20GB, so Jelv raises a good question.
4PM is generally considered as the start of the peak time on the internet so even though the virtual path is green at the exchange you could still have 40+ people on the same port as you.

peak time usage is well within limits.
speed this morning is back up to 4M.
would contention reduce speed to less than 500k - that seems rather excessive?
has everyone suddenly discovered the joys of the bbc iplayer?

hmmm... solved my own problem.
mornings I'm on the desktop and speed's ok. evenings, I'm on the laptop and speed drops.
both machines were previously optimised with TCPoptimiser.
however, I noticed that the desktop was still ok in the evenings and it was just the laptop that was running slow, so I ran TCPoptimiser again on the laptop and speed's back to normal again.
Just wondering how, when nothing had been changed on the laptop, that its settings should be out of whack?
