I recently moved to plusnet from talk talk. After a painful start caused by a fault on the line at the exchange, which now seems to be fixed, i'm struggling to get decent speeds from my line.
My last two ISP were sky and talk talk and i used to sync at just over 2mb and get speeds of between 1.5 and 2mb. I'm just aiming to get something close to that. Most of the time I'm syncing with close to the following stats
Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 0:37:58
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Channel mode: Interleave
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 532 / 2,144
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 1,984
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 0.00 / 9.51
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 17.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 59.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 16.0
These would let me get onto the 1.5mb down bt ip profile and i'd be happy with that. But the line sometimes drops the connection and then reconnects at a much lower rate, usually between 750 and 1000kbps, causing my profile to be automatically downgraded. I've then got to wait for it to decide the line is stable enough to bump it back up.
BT speed test
Download speedachieved during the test was - 655 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1984 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 750 Kbps
I'm wanting to try and keep it stable at the higher sync and I'm just looking for advice. Is my goal realistic with my stats?
I've got the router directly connected to the master socket using the filter supplied. I've no extensions. I've tried several filters (old and new) and the behavior is much the same. I've not yet tried swapping out the router and I've ordered a dsl face plate to see if that helps any.
Any advice would be appreciated. I've had a look through the guides on the stickies and the support staff have been helpful so far getting the line fault sorted and letting me know about the bt ip profiles.
One odd thing I've noticed is that no matter what BT profile I'm on the upstream speed is always a lot lower than it should be. When I was on a 500 profile i was lucky to 100kb upload. The download speed would be close to the profile limit. Is this normal and just part of the bt ip profile capping?
thanks

I've just checked your line and the profile is inconsistent. This means that the bRAS and DSLAM have different profiles. I will reset the SNR, this usually cures it. I'll monitor it for you over the course of the day and see what happens. I'll get back to you as soon as I have something to report.

The 1.5mb speed would be fine if I can just keep the line stable so anything that helps that is great
The fault definately now seems to be fixed from what the support team have told me.

This seems to have been a bit of movement now. Can you run a BT speedtest and post the result here please?

thanks for your help and sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I had to wait till i was back home.
New test results just now.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 743 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2208 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 750 Kbps
The line seems to have resynced a couple of hours ago at a higher rate than this morning. It was wet this morning so I'm not sure if thats having an effect. I'll try and note what the weathers like if the sync rate drops.
Router stats are
Uptime: 0 days, 1:54:55
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Channel mode: Fast
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 540 / 2,208
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 2,208
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 0.00 / 15.24
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 17.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 59.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 9.5

It looks like the profile's now uplifted to 2500 on both our side and BTs, hope you're noticing the speed increase?

It gradually dropped down to about 2mb sync and has stayed there ( give or take 200kb) for the last week. I think the BRAS changed to 1500 but I'm happy with that. It still seems to drop out 1 or 2 times a day but that doesn't seem to be causing the BRAS to drop.
thanks for your help with this, its much appreciated.
cheers,
Derek

Last time it took three days before the BRAS changed to suit the higher sync speed; am I likely to be stuck on 0.1 for 3 days?
I've changed the filters to new filters. Is it worth trying a different modem? I've been told the line fault is fixed and it had been stable; the only thing that has changed over the last couple of days is that i moved from value broadband to broadband extra.

After a reboot its fine although by then its evening and I don't know when it dropped.
I have tried different filters, should I try swapping the modem?

Definitely worth trying a different modem/router (in the test socket behind the master socket front plate ideally). If the line still drops with both router/modems in the test socket then you've confirmed it's a fault on the line itself.
