Advice/help on ADSL2+ please

email from Plusnet  The exchange equipment we use to provide your service has now been upgraded, and we can offer you a faster 'upto 16Mb' service.

Have checked and I do now have  DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
I'm on Plusnet Extra...Router is TG585 v7  Software Release: 8.2.6.5
Using the bt dslchecker/adsl/adslchecker. I get
Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps.
Now I know not to expect a great increase in speed but I did expect some. At the moment my speed hasn't yet changed yet my upload speed seems to have dropped!
Using speedtester bt dot com I get

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download  Speed
6.49 Mbps

0 Mbps 21 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 6.49 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 16.18 Mbps
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
1.07 Mbps

Going through the FAQs on updating firmware etc I've managed to totally confuse myself...easily done these days  Sad and I can't find a firmware upgrade. Not in the least technical minded and I'm all for traveling the easy road these days so would a new router from Plusnet solve any speed/upload issues.
Advice/info any at all will be appreciated...Thankyou.

What does https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate say for your current line speed?

That's the problem!. Your PlusNet profile hasn't yet caught up with the BT IP profile
Quote
IP Profile for your line is - 16.18 Mbps
It should update automatically within 24 hrs but sometimes it doesn't. If one of the Digital Care team doesn't spot this thread and fix it then give the CSC a call and tell them that your PlusNet profile does not agree with the BT one.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Advice/help on ADSL2+ please

So. once again. Plusnet's system for tracking BT's IP profile (which is 16.18 Mbps in this instance)  has failed and the customer suffers.  EVERY time you see a mismatch like this you should immediately contact Plusnet and ask them to manually correct their profile.  Because the weight of technical support phone calls on this issue might just persuade them to do something about a system that does not work properly where nothing else has.  Call 0800 432 0200 and if they say that their records show that they are matching your BT IP profile, explain that that is because their records are wrong.

Hi Jen,
I've updated your profile, so you should now see your speed increase. There's nothing else you need that you need to do.
If there's anything else then please just ask.
