Is there any difference between different manufactured Micro filters? If so which are the best and most reliable.
Are surge protected micro filters really necessary?
Cheers.

All the filters do is strip the ADSL signal off the side of the filter that you phones etc connect to - and stop odd things happening to the adsl line when the phone/fax/sky box is in use etc. They pretty much all do the same thing in my opinion and the type supplied with most routers are completely fine. The connection from the filter to your router is straight through - the filtered part is for the phones are other equipment.

They are not all equal
This is one comparison http://www.adslnation.com/support/filters.php
As a general rule dangly wire ones are much better than the compact plug in ones

This may be a daft question but do you need a filter for your modem if you do not connect a phone? Example I have phone connected via a filter and on another outlet the router connected via a router. Do I really need the filter for the router using the appropriate cable that is?
