so I put those new settings into the DVD, which it accepted.  However it could not connect!!

Can you PING the DVD from your PC?

there is one thing that is bothering me I cannot find a way of gettig rid of the zeros in the single digit space on TP address abd Gateway.  I am assuming that a xero is for the purposes of this of no value

You mean 192.168.001.254 ?
If so should be Ok.
Can you PING?
