At the outset I called Plusnet help and was given the following settings which I applied
IP 192.168.1.40
Gateway 192.168.1.254
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Primary DNS 212.159.13.49
Secondary DNS 212.159.13.50
I have checked these settings this morning at they are as follows
Connection Test Home Network (DNLA)
IP 169.254.210.234 (this has reverted automatically)
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 (as above)
Gateway ---.---.---.--- (as above)
Primary DNS ---.---.---.---. (as above)
Secondary DNS ---.---.---.---.(as above)
I made an attempt to update agian as I was checking and the unit failed to gain access to the internet. The unit is Panasonic Blue-ray Disc Player Model No DMP-BDT320
Hope this is of use
Richard

the 169.x.x.x IP address shows that the DVD player can't see the DHCP server (ie the router) and have given itself a self-assigned IP address.
i would suggest you look at the connection as that seems to be your issue.

I'm a little confused as to why the network settings were lost.
Is there a network settings screen which gives the option of "Manual" / "Automatic" network settings - which needs to be selected and applied ?
What appears to have happened, is that you have entered (what looks like) a valid set of "Manual" network settings - which the DVD should retain, BUT somehow because the network connection to your router isn't available, the DVD has reverted to "Automatic" settings - which shouldn't happen, and then has assigned incorrect parameters because no network was found.
So there are potentially three problems -
- The network connection to the router isn't working.
- The DVD should remain in whichever "Manual" / "Automatic" mode the user has chosen,
irrespective of whether a network connection is available.
- The DVD isn't retaining the "Manual" network settings, although that might happen if "Automatic" is selected.

What 192.168.??.? address do you use at a computer's web browser to access the router's web interface ?
Those DNS values should work, you can check what they are supposed to be here - Plusnet "Connection Details"
If you aren't convinced, try using Google DNS instead, i.e. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Now you are connected by an ethernet cable, have you tried setting the DVD network settings to "Automatic" or possibly "DHCP", save the setting and then restart the DVD player - and see whether the DVD gets it's connection setup automatically using info from the router ?

There are 3 Units attached to the router
1 The DVD player
2 The Yamaha amplifier
3 A home control 4 unit
I cannot try the other units because ther are no updates to collect!!

If it's Windows, open a Command Prompt (Press start button and type CMD in to search box) then type IPCONFIG - post the details here.
