ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

hi,
I used to connect using ADSL1 and continued to do so when I was migrated from 20CN to 21CN over a year ago.
Today, I notice my router now reports I have a ADSL2+ connection.  It looks like the change occured 37 seconds past midnight.
Q. Do PlusNet send advance notifications emails?  (No such message in my spam mail box unless it was sent before 1st Sep)
Q. Does this also mean my line is now in a new 10 day training period ?

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

Hi there,
If this was automated then you probably won't have received a notification e-mail and yes, you may have started on a 10 day training period.
Can you DM me your username so I can check the account to be sure about this?
Adam

I've just run a few checks and we've not processed any orders to move you to ADSL2+

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

hmm, looks like someone at OR must have pressed a wrong button and upgraded my line.....
My BT router currently reports 'G.DMT2+ Annex A'.
Would you be able to tell me if I am on ADSL2+ or ADSL1 at the moment?
Could you increase my profile at your end from 4mb to whatever is appropriate for my current IP  profile of 4,640 kbps ?

Does the fact my IP profile is 4,640 rather than  ending in double zero digits suggest it is now ADSL2+ ?   I used to have 4,500 kbps IP profile.
Tnx

Hi there,
You're on ADSL1 but on the 21CN, hence the different IP profile reported. I've upped your profile on our side to 4500 to match that one Smiley

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

Thanks Matt, I can confirm the PN current line speed is now 4.5mb when I check my account.

Following your post, I unplugged the 2701HGV-C router and replaced it with an older 2700HGV which I had been previously using for past 3 months.
It too reports I am connecting using G.DMT2+ Annex A  !
Today, my line attenuation has also shot up a bit to 54db reported on both routers.   It has always been around 48db for past few years on ADSL1.   Target noise margin is unchanged at 12dB.
Current line speed is 5,616 kbps which is a wee bit higher than I normally see with ADSL1 too.
My IP profile has now risen to 4,954 kbps.... (Screen captures using 2701HGV-C)

Everything here still suggests to me my line has been mysteriously switched from ADSL1 to ADSL2+ last night at midnight.
It's not a real issue as the line seems to be stable.

If the 2700 is reporting that you're definitely connected on ADSL2+. The fact that the calculated attenuation increased by a few db is also typical of having been changed from ADSL1 to ADSL+.

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

If you were on ADSL1 I think your upstream sync speed would be exactly 448kbps. I would regard it being 445kbps as an indication that you are on ADSL2/2+.

That's useful - and it shows upstream sync speed is 448kbps. Smiley

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

Hi,
G.DMT is the encapsulation protocol for ADSL, if it was ADSL2/2+ it'd be G.992 or G.992.5 I believe.
Nope, not entirely right - G.992.1 appears to be the same as G.DMT which is indeed ADSL, and G.992.5 is definitely ADSL2+. They're all listed on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_digital_subscriber_line#ADSL_standards
EDIT: Can't find anything on Google for G.DMT2+ though I can definitely see the confusion there. I've just checked on BTs systems and it's showing the maximum download speed as 8128 and the access technology as ADSL, so I'm sure you're on the ADSL1 service but using the 21CN.

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

Matt,
For information a 2700HGV will report
G.DMT for ADSL1(G.992.1)
G.DMT2 for ADSL2(G.992.3)
G.DMT2+ for ADSL2+(G.992.5)
I think BT's systems are misreporting somewhere ( now that makes a change! Smiley )

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

I am on ADSL on a 21CN connection and I've attached what my BT 2700HGV shows now.
However, I reported a speed problem on 09/08/11 and the CS person included the following information at the start of their log:
Profile: 9dB/Interleaved
SNR Level: MIN:5dB | MAX:13dB | AVG: 9dB
WP Product: WBC MAX24 mb/s (ADSL2+ Annex A) 448kbit/s Upstream

When I queried this, as I was on ADSL1, the next CS person agreed with me.
So, I would also agree with your router before something from the BT/PN system.

Re: ADSL1 to ADSL2+ general query

My line also seems to have moved over to ADSL2+ overnight, having previously been on ADSL1 over 21CN before. My downstream sync speed dropped (slightly) from 8128 kbps to 8127 kbps when the change occurred, despite the line being capable of a faster rate.
I started a separate thread earlier this morning.
