A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

I doubt that there's much that Plusnet can do about this but I'll bounce it off you once...
Your details say  the following
Phone exchange:
   CRONDALL
Estimated line speed:
   7Mb (This may vary between 6Mb and 8Mb) - Checked on 2012-02-24 13:06:48
Current line speed:
   7.15 Mb
In reality we actually get quite a variation. 0.6MB - 5MB; average is about 1MB.   We're about a mile from the exchange (by road). I'm guessing this is conjestion and unless BT do something at the exchange (or we move) we're all screwed.  Modem stats follow.  Thanks!

Re: A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

Is your connection to the router wired or wireless? If it's wireless have you tried checking the speed with a wired connection when it appears to be going slow?

The history for your exchange looks OK (link), but as it's over a month since Plusnet last updated the data I'm not sure if you can rely on the current green status.
Is the speed poor at any particular time of the day and good when general internet usage will be lighter?

Hi cobcottageonline,
I'm surprised you can't get  better speed. The 0.5Mbps concerns me. As jelv said, are there patterns in the time of day your speed changes?

Re: A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

Hi guys - thanks for the replies - I thought I'd enabled replies but obviously hadn't so sorry for the late reply!
Our internet has been slow for years but as we're not big downloaders (apart from after midnight:-) and we've not been too worried.  I run speedtesters via ethernet and test socket. A neigbour with talktalk has also been very slow but BT set their profile to 0.5MB (sorry - don't understand the tech speak)...still waiting for that to be sorted.
Question1. I'm on Value which means there;s no (or little) traffic management between midnight and 4pm.  What are speedtesters considered as far as Plusnet are concerned?  Is that a download, download server or just browsing?
Its been suggested to me that I post some speed test results over the period of a few days.   I just started today.  This is what I have.  Will update in a couple of days. Thanks! (These are using 3 different testers with results averaged; I'm working at home today 🙂

Re: A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

Hi there,
That does sound like it's slowing down in the evenings when the network does tend to be a lot busier. Hope things do get improved, I'm not sure when the exchange information is due to be updated but I'll check on that too.

Re: A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

EDIT: raised question 52881561 with Plusnet.
A picture for you. NB. no readings between 00:30 and 06:30, but I'm sure the bandwidth is fine then!
I just want to know if this is typical for an expected 5.5MB connection. Thanks.

Hi,
I've just had a look at ticket 52881561 and I'm glad to see that appears to be sorted now. Let me know if you need any further help with that.

Re: A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

Hi - yes some crazy speeds over the last 2 days (as is crazy FAST).  But looks like I'm limited to 2Meg this morning.  Will wait to see what happens over the next 10 "training" days.
PS. is there a simple tech sentence which describes what has been done as a neigbour, also with PN, is running at 1Meg (or less).  Cheers.

Re: A lowly maxADSL subscriber (LLU not available)

Sorry - best ignore this.  I was just trying to find out what was done so I can tell my neighbour what was done.  I'll just get her to raise a ticket (through the fault reporter.) Thanks.
