A gander at my connection, please.

For quite some time the connection has behaved well, but over last few days it hasn't at all. Here is an extract of the event log of a monitoring program. QLT seems OK.

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

Hi @Luzern and thanks for getting in touch.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing drops in connection - I can see these reflected in the history of your connection over recent weeks.

I've tested your broadband connection and haven't found any external fault on your line. This usually means that the issue relates to something within your premises.

In order to narrow down the cause of the problem I'd recommend that you undertake the troubleshooting which can be found here.

If you follow this through and still experience drops in connection when you're connected to the test socket I'd recommend that you raise a fault here.

Hope this helps.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused @Luzern

It might also be worth finding out if there's any noise or crackling on your phone line by dialling 17070. If there is, I'd recommend reporting it to your phone provider to investigate the line.

Failing that, best to report a fault to us at faults.plus.net or using the link Dave has provided.

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

17070: there's no noise AFAICT. in truth I had checked that before posting. Last evening plugged into test socket, and errors are minimal. Before going much further I'm thinking of getting new Ethernet cable, as age is suspect.

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

Someone (private) is coming out to examine/ revamp my set up.

OT? Interleaving depth is a funny one "511". I thought depths went up in 16 multiples.

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

I will. Regarding my comment on the massive interleave depth, has any got an answer how it could be so strange and high?

Somewhat funny, certainly not "ha-ha" is that I am back on fast path with much the same SNRM and speed.scratching-head-smiley-emoticon

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

It's difficult to say anything much about a single number without seeing all the rest of the stats.

The possible interleaving depth values for ADSL2/2+ are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and then 96, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, 288, 320, 352, 384, 416, 448, 480, 511. Yes 511 is listed as the highest one.

The interleaving depth figure itself is not particularly important, the more important figures to look at are the INP and delay values. Without seeing the rest of the stats, I'd guess that the interleaving depth of 511 was due to being on a banded profile with a higher than usual INP level (more error protection).

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

I have attached PDFs of complete stats of situation prior to troubles, with 511 interleave and, lastly on current fast path.

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

Hello @Luzern

Sorry to hear you are experiencing a problem with your connection.  We can see that your connection is dropping a lot, which is causing it to become unstable and the line speed to be reduced automatically, as a way of stabilising it. This is done automatically by a DLM software which makes changes to your line to try to keep you connected.

7 days of connection7 days of connection

The drops could be caused by either internal wiring, equipment or a fault on the line. Please can you advised if you managed to move your equipment into the test socket, which you can use the guide here to locate it. We would also ask you try an new microfilter and alternative router to rule out your equipment.

If you have tried the suggestions above and the issue is persisting we would recommend raising a fault here. Please let us know how you get on. Smiley

Re: A gander at my connection, please.

Wiring was revamped on 13 Feb mid morning with SSFP in place of filters, and I was assured that internal phone set up was OK and that no line fault had been found. Apart from some disturbance and drops on 15th the errors a greatly reduced. Can the banding be removed, please, and the very high interleave depth reduced? If you have observations post 13 Feb, you will doubtlessly pass them on.

OT can you confirm costs of changing to Fibre without phone until my LRS with BT has run its course? Is there any cost benefit in not accepting the offered router?
