A Quick Question about internet (STATISTICS)

Hello, 

I have been Curious if the following attached pic of statistics of ADSL2+ is normal? Speed Shows in Router main page 

Upload	509 kbps
Download	10239 kbps

I'm not aware of what is normal and what is not. Why is there two Paths? Path 0 and Path 1? 

If anyone knows. help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Without knowing the make and model of router you are using one can only guess what Path 0 and Path 1 are. Typically they are alternates and some internal logic in the router is used to choose the best one. It looks like Path 0 is using the ADSL2+ protocol connected at 10239kbps and Path 1 the ADSL1 protocol which has a maximum connection speed of 8128kbps. So Path 0 is best for you and that is the one being used.

Whether your router stats are normal depends... An important parameter is the Downstream SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) Margin which is currently 13.7dB (shown as 137 x 0.1dB). The normal value is 6dB and that value would give higher download speeds.

Normally DLM (Dynamic Line Management) kit in the exchange assigns a target noise margin based on the line performance parameters it sees (connection stability and transmission error rates). At face value I'd expect DLM to try reducing target noise margin. Are you aware of anything that might be stopping it doing that? For example does SNRM vary significantly with time or do you turn your router off during the day or at night?

How long had your router been connected when you recorded those stats?

Further to David's observations, the attenuation figure is a good indication of what your line might deliver in ideal conditions.  28dB might suggest a maximum speed of 16.5Mbps - the elevated SNRM mention by David is more than enough to account for the difference between the ideal and what you are getting.  The question is why?

Please perform a quiet line test - dial 17070 select option 2 using a corded phone plugged into the test socket behind the face plate of the master socket. It should be silent. A noisy phone line (or no dial tone) will have a marked adverse impact on the performance of broadband.

If the line is noisy or there is no dial tone, then a PHONE LINE fault needs to be raised with your phone provider. If this is PlusNet, you can report a fault on line using the button below.

Is the router connected to the master socket?  Are there any phone extensions from the master socket?  Not being connected to the master socket and poor extension wiring (wrong standards) can have a marked impact on raw synch speed.  Take a look at the speed issues thread (link below) for more guidance.
