Re: 95214692

right, adsl is back up(finally)but pings still shooting up when putting pressure on the line(watching a youtube vid whilst pinging google causes the ping to shoot over 1000ms) - had this issue before the line went down but was dismissed by PN as normal.....pretty sure it isnt!
will monitor it over the next few days and provide an update

Re: 95214692

Pings will always take a low priority, if there is higher priority traffic utilising the line's capacity - for example Utube videos.  You'd be miffied if the video stuttered to pass pings faster... Wink Cheesy

Re: 95214692

problem I have is I also get these spikes when playing games/on teamspeak(not running youtube at the same time as gaming tho...that would be crazy), and it will cause dropouts on both

also get breakups etc when refreshing pages on the internet/steam etc.
any chance of upping my profile to 4Mb.....I know the line will do it, and I can do some meaningful tests

Re: 95214692

Can you post your router stats please?
The profile cannot be just "upped" it is a reflection of your synch speed.

Re: 95214692

That HEC error report from the router looks a bit strange.
If the line has been stable for 3 days, then one would expect that the DLM will make adjustments when it confirms the line's stability.  There is not much room for improvement on this line - possibly 900kbps.
This looks like a 20CN service.  To attain a 4M profile, your synch will need to rise to 4544kbps - which is rather optimistic!

Re: 95214692

I agree with Townman, I don't think we're going to get much more out of your line here. The line needs to sync 1.5Mb higher than it currently is to get a 4Mb profile, I can't see that happening and being stable unfortunately.

Ping packets are usually tiny and few and far between, so use very little bandwidth, and they are in fact given a higher priority classification than Youtube videos and general web browsing by Plusnet's traffic management.
That could have been caused by the Plusnet Current Line Speed being higher than the BT IP Profile for your line. Your Plusnet Current Line Speed should have automatically updated to the appropriate value by now, but it's worth checking it in the member centre if that aspect of this thread is still an issue.

Re: 95214692

Estimated line speed:
2.0Mb (This may vary between 1Mb and 3Mb) - Checked on 2014-12-29 23:22:07
Current line speed:
2.5 Mb
yet my router shows the following:-
Link Information
Uptime: 4 days, 16:55:00
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.1
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 3.136
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 1,26 / 1,99
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,2 / 18,5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 27,0/ 53,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 20,0 / 9,0
Surely there is room for a push up in speed there, and surely it should have moved up after 3 days?Huh

Re: 95214692

You are synced at  3136, this gives a profile of 2500 which is what you are currently set at.
Unless your sync goes above 3424 you aren't going to see any profile increase. This is due to the way that profiles on 20CN are calculated, you can see the syncs and relevant profiles here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/broadband_terminology.shtml#ipProfile

Re: 95214692

thanks for the quick reply...surely the SNR margin has some room for improvment(have seen it stable as low as 3 before) - any chance of a manual kick?  the only reason it has been up for 4 days is that I needed the socket the router was plugged in to....

Re: 95214692

can we at least try setting the SNR target a little lower to see what we can achieve?
