does it actually cause any issues for you? I've seen pings like on the first hop quite a lot...

yup    well normal surfing is brilliant , its just a pain when gaming       which i do a fair bit of . it doesnt stop me gaming its just annoying when it happens especially if someone is shooting you at the time  :D.
i must presume its something with the thompson as it dissapeared when i got the home hub , so i wlll have to aquire another router   before BF3 arrives

Was the ping on the first hop just as bad with the homehub? (if you noticed) If so I'm wondering if you're PC is a factor, would you be able to test this on another machine too?

TBH i never did a tracert with the HH as i never had this problem with it .
example * i just loaded up the game BC2 server list UK server ping 12ms join server within 3 mins my player ping had risen to 660   making the game unplayable .

i have 6gig ocz ddr2  800 RAM

just a update , new router has been ok, ish
not as many probs but i just checked routerstats     too many errors ?
ps in case ya wondering i had a power cut yesterday thats why connection is only 21 hours
