40/10 or 80/20 which one?

i renewed my contract a few days ago and my internet disconnected and reconnected with the following speedtest results

i rang up PN and said can u check, but i still believe this is limited to 40/10 as the speedtest indicates
on my plus net member center i have this

so if im on 78mb and estimated 47mb why am i getting the results i am from the speedtest indicating limiting to 40/10 and not 80/20
something aint adding up here....

Re: 40/10 or 80/20 which one?

Hi Boodz85,
I've had a look into this and it seems we had an order progressing to amend your speed profile to 80/20 and this was due to complete on 23/06/2014. These types of orders should only take 24 hours to complete so I've cancelled this order and am going to replace it to complete sooner. I'm unsure why you were on 40/10  to be honest as you should've been provisioned on 80/20.
I'll get this sorted out for you as soon as I can. The order that was in place should be fully cancelled on the systems later this afternoon at which point I'll place the new order.
EDIT: The order has now cancelled and I've just gone on the system to modify your connection to 80/20 and it's flagged up that you're already on 80/20.

Keep your hair on! Smiley
This recently happened to me & I ended up being downgraded to 40/10  after renewing my contract. Like you I was soon restored to my former glory. The problem was caused by a known fault within the PN system which is due to be rectified sometime this month. This was fully explained to me by one of the PN staff who regularly contributes to this excellent forum. It certainly isn't done intentionally by PN.
I assume that when you renewed your contract  you contacted the cusomer retention team for their latest deal!!! Roll_eyes

Re: 40/10 or 80/20 which one?

I think what Chris is saying is that you are now on 80/20.
Do a speedtest.
I'd imagine that the order for the change to 80/20 for the 23rd was "blocking" things & once the order was removed it got you to 80/20 automatically.
Guess Chris is on lunch but I'm sure he'll be back to enlighten us both.  Smiley

@2senile - Indeed you're right, Linn spotted that the line is already provisioned on 80/20 which looks to be fine.
@Boodz85 - Your profile was stuck a 40/10 on your account at our side so this was raised back to 80/20 yesterday, hopefully you should see a speed uplift already (possible disconnect/reconnect of the router may help) if you can now try a speed test and see what results you're getting.

Re: 40/10 or 80/20 which one?

you need to drop the session on the router for the new speeds to kick in so login to the router and choose disconnect wait for a bit then click connect again then run the speed test if all is well you should see the correct speed this is in regards to the plusnet router i dont know the method for other brands .

Re: 40/10 or 80/20 which one?

Thanks for the test results Boodz85,
It looks like the upload has surpassed the 10mbps mark so you're definitely on an 80/20 product there. I've also checked the DLM profile and it looks like you're sync'd at 39mbps with a banding of 54mbps so nothing is holding the connection back on our side or on the BT network.
Just checking your estimated speed range here shows that the lowest estimate is 31mbps so you're actually above the lower range. Just out of curiosity I have a couple of questions:

  • What speeds were you seeing before this dropped?

  • Has anything been changed on the line, new phones or devices?

  • Does the line sound clear or do you hear crackling or clicks?

Thanks,
Adam C

Re: 40/10 or 80/20 which one?

after another reset -

was getting 47-50mb upto a couple of days ago, around 5.1meg per sec real time download and 1.9meg real time upload.
Seems a bit odd to just randomly disconnect and arrive back at 39  Sad

Re: 40/10 or 80/20 which one?

Thanks for getting back to us Boodz85,
Have you had any hardware changes with regards to phone or devices in the home around the time of the drop in speeds and does the line sound clear?
