£30.00 Cessation charge.

Hi, I was under the impression that the £30.00 cessation charge only applied if you left PlusNet without moving to another provider. I have just been informed on the phone that it only applies if I go with BT, who are too expensive for me. I assumed that if I went with another provider which used BT lines, I wouldn't be charged this fee, could someone please clarify this for me? I want to leave early but can't afford £62.25 which includes the cessation charge.
Thanks in advance.
Linda.
PS. Apologies to the poor bloke I just spoke to on the phone, my language was less than lady like.  Embarrassed

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

The £30 cease fee is only applicable if the new provider doesn't use a recognised method of migration.
It sounds like you may have been quoted something that used to be advised before some things changed, where we were usually charged the cease fee when customers moved on to the MPF network.
Essentially, if the new provider migrates the services (Keeping the existing number) you shouldn't be charged.
However if they do a 'working line takeover' this would not be a recognised method of 'migration' as basically it would cease our line (Causing us to be charged, therefore we would pass the charge on to your) and re-provide the line with a new number as part of the same order.

OK, so I need my line to be migrated and I need to keep my existing number and I shouldn't be charged....I'm a little worried about the "shouldn't" part of that.  Wink

No problem.
Providing the new provide do use a recognised method of migration. You won't be charged.
If however your new provider is Virgin, I'm not sure there is a way around the line not being ceased as part of the migration as they use a completely different network.

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

What would you call a "recognised method of migration" ? I need to know I'm doing this right as I can't really afford any surprise charges at the moment.

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

The recognised method is where the gaining supplier does it be means of a migration not by a cease and resupply which they sometimes do when they shouldn't

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

If serenadon63 is in Market A/1 (outside of Plusnet's low cost areas), I thought there should be no cease fee there at all.

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

It still depends on the new provider placing the order the correct way.

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

It does? I thought the wholesale cost for ceasing a service, and not using the line for broadband any more, was zero, in Market A.

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

Hi I am new to the forum and have been told that I have to pay a £30 cessation fee even though I am simply moving my broadband provider to BT. Surely, this can't be right? Or have I missed something? G

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

The £30 cessation charge is completely unrelated to the state of the contract and only applies if you cancel the line or the transfer to another provider causes a cease and reprovide
Assuming BT handle the migration correctly you will not be liable for the charge

Re: £30.00 Cessation charge.

Hi,

I am a technical BB specialist with a well known provider. I moved my service to plusnet almost two years ago due to my employer\provider could not allow me to take my number to new address. So, I am now ready to move back and I called this morning to have my service 'migrated' back to orginal employer\supplier. I was mentioned to the girl that it was importannt that it was a migration and also the number was to be kept. She proceeded to place order and I was told that I could not 'migrate\port my number due to an issue with my present supplier (Plusnnet). Now, forgive mme me if I am wrong, but I just checked Ofcom website and it clearly states that present CP must relaese the number. Can someone at Plusnet helo me out here please? I want a seamless transfer of servie and no hassle. Many thanks...
