Re: 3 Months tomorrow

O.k thanks for your help .
Will give it till next week-end  and see what happens
Have just done another BT  test . speed back up to normal probably because it's quieter this morning

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4533 kbps
If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

Well I've just had a diconnection for some reason and of course had to re-boot
This has now sent my line rate  down .
So I don't suppose Bt are now likely to up my profile unitill my line rate increases again . that's assuming it does

Line Mode G.DMT   Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave   Line Up Time 00:00:04:48
Line Coding Trellis Off   Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 5216 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 15.3 dB 22.0 dB
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB 22.0 dB
Output Power 19.7 dBm 11.9 dBm

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

As I have already said for some reason I was dissconnected earlier and on re-booting found  that my line rate had dropped . Just remembered we had a power cut for a few minutes  yesterday
That's probably why as spraxyt noticed my router was restarted  at 1pm( perhaps we had a quick blip again today)
However, I thought that I would turn my router off for a few minutes and then re-boot to see if it increased my speed but it didn't, but I have just noticed that  my line   attenuation   has dropped . I'm not up on these things, so could anybody tell me why and what it means ?Huh
Was                 Line Attenuation 39.0 dB 22.0 dB

Now                Line Attenuation 15.5 dB 22.0 dB

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

I think line attenuation showing as 15.5dB is simply misreporting. The actual value will be what it always has been. I've seen this from time to time, though not recently. From what I remember it corrects itself in due course without needing the router restarted.
What router stats do you have at the moment?

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

Well, I have done yet another re-boot due to bt speedtester problem  ( see bt speedtester topic)
It has not cured the bt speedtester problem , but it has corrected the line attenuation speed and has increased the line rate

Line Mode G.DMT   Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave   Line Up Time 00:00:03:16
Line Coding Trellis Off   Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 6016 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 15.1 dB 22.0 dB
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB 22.0 dB
Output Power 19.8 dBm 11.9 dBm

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

Since those stats were done 3 minutes after you restarted the router and noise margin is 15.1dB it does look as though the DLM has set your target noise margin to 15dB.
However being able to sync at 7616kbps at 1pm on Saturday and having noise margins of 8.3dB at 5:40pm and 10.1dB at 9:50pm that day seem inconsistent with that logic.  Unless, of course, the DLM reduced it, but then increased it again after Sunday's power cut/disconnection.
That is pure speculation, but a period of stability looks as though it might be beneficial.

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

Current Noise Margin: 12.0 dB (Downstream), 25.0 db (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 30.9 dB (Downstream), 19.0 db (Upstream)
Current Output Power: 19.7 dB (Downstream), 11.9 db (Upstream)
I that anygood?

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

Hi there,
Your noise margin is a bit higher than the default level of 6dB, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there is a problem, just that your line is a little noisy.  Mine sits at 9dB.
Attenuation @ 30dB is a pretty good figure and it means you're probably within about a mile of your exchange.

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

You have to raise a ticket to get your noise margin reset to 6dB.
BT can be slow so it may take up to a week or so.
