3 Months tomorrow

Well I have now been with Plusnet For 3 months come tomorrow and I must say that so far I can't fault them .
However after my initial period I was getting a BT  profile Of  I believe 6000 kbps untill I had a fault of which I must admit was my doing .
It was quickly sorted and after a period of stability Bt raised my profile back up , but only to 5000 kbps . My line has remained stable ever since with speeds normally at about 4400-4500kbps . I am unable to do a BT test at the moment as their line is busy,
but below are some My Broadband results .I must stress that I am NOT complaining
but I am supposed to be able to get upto 6.5mps in my area according to some website ( I cannot remember which).
I was wondering why BT had not put my profile back to 6000kbps

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

You probably looked at Kitz site www.kitz.co.uk
To comment on your profile the router stats (SNR margin etc.) would be useful.

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

It is possible that when things messed up the default noise margin was increased from 6dB to 9dB or even 12dB.
This would give exactly the results you are seeing.
If you do a manual resynch and check the downstream noise margin immediately (or look in the router log as it may give that information) this should tell you.
If I am correct it should sort itself out in theory but in practice often doesn't so the only way is to raise a ticket asking for the default noise margin to be lowered.
You may need to be patient because BT seem to be reluctant to do it.

You should find instructions for your router/modem here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

That's it!
14.9dB is quite high.
On the other hand attenuation at 39dB implies you're about 3Km from the exchange in which case you could maybe get a little more speed, but not much.

Re: 3 Months tomorrow

Sorry, edited post while you replied - go back and reread. 14.9dB is very good; anything over 6dB is good. But distance may be an issue.
