2Mb? Was faster in the past

Any idea what's up here? I used to get speeds of 6Mb+ and recently the speed and connectivity drops have been more regular. The router is plugged into the same socket as it always has been, no changes there. The phone line has been a bit noisy at times too.

The attenuation should mean you can get a much higher speed than you're currently seeing, however the noise you've mentioned on the line has probably been the cause of the SNR increasing to 13.5 to compensate for the noise. This has the effect of reducing the connection speed.
So realistically we need to eradicate the noise before doing anything else.
Can you try plugging a single phone handset into the master socket, dialing 17070 and doing the quiet line test. Let me know if there is any noise, crackles, hisses, pops etc.

Hi Chris, thanks for replying so quickly.
Phone -> ADSL Filter -> Master Socket = Noise, crackling, the whole nine yards ...
Phone -> Master Socket = Clean line, no noise etc.
I've plugged in another ADSL filter which came with the Thompson router and the internet seems more stable already.
Here's the updated router info:
DSL Connection

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 154 / NA

And the BT stuff:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 7.85 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 7.9 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.97Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

Seems to be back to where it was before at least! Huzzah! Does my local cabinet support faster ADSL speeds, or is this all I'm likely to get unless I upgrade to fibre?

Re: 2Mb? Was faster in the past

At the moment your pretty much above the estimate for your line so unfortunately it looks like this is the best you'll get on ADSL.
If you want to move onto Fibre it may be worth having a word with our Customer Options Team to see if we can sort a deal out for you.
They're in from 9am to 8pm during the week, 9am while 7pm on Saturday and 9am while 6pm on Sunday
You can call them on 0800 013 2632 or 0330 123 9197 if your calling from a mobile.

Re: 2Mb? Was faster in the past

You are already on ADSL2+ as indicated by G992.5 Annex A
If you can get a stable connection you should be able to get a synch downstream of ~ 13Mb with actual connection speeds of maybe 10.5Mbps?
