21cn exchange - 1.01km away, 2mb down rate?

Ok,
So i've checked my distance:  1.01km
My phone line is clear.
Master socket: No difference.
SY1 2DL  to SHREWSBURY exchange.

I've checked my modems stats:
Quote
Uptime: 0 days, 6:19:59
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 444 / 4.058

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,9 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20,6 / 38,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 28,7 / 4,6
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 9 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 7.436.332
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 12.845
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 57.785

I'm really disappointed with the down-rate I am receiving?..
Plusnet site statistic:

Phone exchange:
SHREWSBURY
Estimated line speed:
8Mb (This may vary between 6.5Mb and 14Mb) - Checked on 2013-06-07 18:03:05
Current line speed:
21 Mb

No, my current line speed is not 21mb, it should be up between 10-15.

Re: 21cn exchange - 1.01km away, 2mb down rate?

It's the errors on the line I'd suspect.
57 thousand in 6 hours? - ugh
Your attenuation is also high for a 1 Km line
I'm 2.2Km from the exchange and that is an accurate "as the cable runs" figure and my D/S attenuation is 35
I'd agree though for a 38 attenuation line around 10 to 12 would sound about right for a 'normal' line - dependent on quality as usual.
Something is seriously wrong with your line
Are you running from the master test socket?

Just looking at Google Maps for your area, I'd hazard that the 1001 metres is straight line, but that the actual distance is much further and nearer to what attenuation you have.
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

It is quite high, it also should of been running longer than that, as I've had it on since Friday, but haven't been present at the computer until yesterday.
I am indeed running from the Master Socket, and also tested with the test-socket by opening the panel. Still same issue.
Think my profile is not updating as it should, or, my line is faulty.
However, phone line seems clear.

When you tried the test socket did you check the router stats
If you run the BT speedtest then further diagnostics what is the IP profile

Re: 21cn exchange - 1.01km away, 2mb down rate?

No idea why your plusnet line speed is saying 21Mbps
Your sync speed is 4058 which is way too low
If you think it should have been on for longer than 6 hours that points to disconnections happening on the line requiring multiple re-sync's
On 21CN Exchange equipment it should work as follows:
Sync speed *0.883 = BT IP profile
This is set automatically at re-sync time
Plusnet profile then aligns itself with the BT setting rounded down after a bit (usually a day or so)
So for example a BT profile of 14.39 would become a plusnet one of 14.3.
Your problem is that your sync is only 4058, but as to why...............
Maybe the line has become banded (restricted) due to previous or still ongoing instabilities
Do you have any stored data from when it was known to be working properely.  Sadly it is always difficult what with the variability of phone lines to know where one should be starting from when trying to get a handle on what is happening now.
Over to Plusnet methinks - they will probably advise running the faults checker now that you have been using the master socket.

Because that is the default at start-up and it hasn't managed to drop yet?  We have not heard from Lightning1 since 2010 prior to this thread.  I presume there has been some change in circumstances and he/she is now in the 10-day training period.

Hi Lightning1,
We'd be happy to chase this for you if you could post up a ticket ID? Unfortunately your forum login is linked to an old destroyed account and we'd need to look at the current one Smiley

Couldn't create a new account - it's using the same e-mail as last time.  It refuses to let me create a new forum account link with the new account , as this profile is still active and related.

I understand that, I was asking because it's not possible for us to find your broadband account at the moment - if you could post a ticket ID we'll be able to find it and offer more help that way.

9.2mb in Master-Test Socket  -  Now how do I go about fixing the connections?

Re: 21cn exchange - 1.01km away, 2mb down rate?

The problem is your internal wiring
Can you describe what you have and, if possible, provide a picture of the wires attached to the removable part of the test socket

How many other sockets do you have and do you normally connect your router to one  of them with a standard short lead from the filter or do you use a long extension lead
