21CN == 19th century network ?

I'm on the Willowcroft exchange, and since they "upgraded" the exchange to "21CN" (Dec 2011) I have to restart my router several times per day due to it grinding to a halt in terms of responsiveness (DNS lookups etc). This was never needed before this "improvement". Is it typical of "21CN" or is this just down to BT still performing updates? Anything that can be done? Thx

Which router are you using and do you know if you have been moved to 21CN ADSL2

Hi persistability,
I can see how the line is up and down. Are you using any extension cables/sockets? Do you have a test socket? What router are you using?

Re: 21CN == 19th century network ?

Hi Oldjim/Jojo,
Router is Netgear DB814, been used for several years with no problem. It is plugged into BT primary socket (no extensions). The socket is a plain BT phone one ... after unscrewing the face plate there seems to be one of those "test socket" (not identical to the linked photo but close).
No idea on the 21CN ADSL2 question; was simply informed by PN that I was moving to 21CN and service would be "more reliable". Is there any way in the PN console I can find out?
Thx

Do you mean DG814 ? if so then that is only an ADSL1 modem/router and so even if your line has been moved to ADSL2+ the router will only synch at ADSL1 speeds.

Re: 21CN == 19th century network ?

Yes, sorry DG814 ... but the lines on this exchange and to my location only give 1.5Mb at best anyway (usually get between 0.5 and 1.0). Is the router spec the problem? Will PN provide me with an ADSL2 router (as part of my service)?

Hi persistability,
you will need an ASDL2+ compatible router. We can provide you with that for just a P&P charge of £4.99. The cost of the router (£40) would only be payable if you left within 12 months.

Re: 21CN == 19th century network ?

Thx Jojo, I actually have a DG834Gv5 also here, which AFAIK supports ADSL2+, so am giving that a try.

Hi persistability,
Ah, good. Are you going to put it in the test socket so we can see if we can get the best out of your line?

Re: 21CN == 19th century network ?

Is that with the test socket
as it is horrible
Can you try the quiet line test with a phone 17070 option 2
And as you have been moved to 21CN and ADSL2 they have possibly mucked up the wiring change in the exchange

Re: 21CN == 19th century network ?

Yes, the "test socket" as per that video. In my case I have no extension wiring *at all* coming out of that socket anyway.
Tried the "quiet line test". Sounded very quiet (to me).
Currently on :-
Connection Speed 1536 kbps 480 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.5 db 63.5 db
Noise Margin 11 db 6.0 db

Hi persistability,
Sorry to ask again but when you say you've 'tried' the test socket, is it still in there?

Re: 21CN == 19th century network ?

Hi persistability,
OK, if you can leave it in there we can see whether the connection stays stable. I'll post a graph tomorrow so we can see how it's held up overnight.
