2091 BT modem

Hi,
I have the BT 2091 modem from PN operating with Vista.
The modem is supposed to reconnect itself if there is an internet disconnection.
This is not happening. The ALWAYS ON button is on, on the configuration menu. Had a few disconnections in the last few days and I have had to reboot the modem. It is connected wirelessly, but the same problem occurs with ethernet connection. Plugged into master socket and tried other filters.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: 2091 BT modem

I have the same problem with the Voyager 2100.
Almost always I have to click the CONNECT button, though occasionally I have to switch off and on the router.
Is this a common problem with these routers?
Thanks

Re: 2091 BT modem

Its a common problem with a lot of routers, not just the Voyager ones

Re: 2091 BT modem

Would you happen to know of any particular brand or model which does reconnect itself?
Thanks

Re: 2091 BT modem

Do you have the latest firmwar on your Voyager?
These 2 posts provide interesting reading:-

I've had a Belkin in the past and have a Netgear Dg834 in the office but both of those have failed to reconnect. I currently have a BT Business Hub ( aka 2Wire 2700HGV ) at home and that reconnects fine. I wouldnt recommend that unless you are a serious techie however, they are 'locked' to BT , only available on Ebay and need seroius 'tweaking' to be persuaded away from BT Business Broadband.
I'd investigate the firmware upgrade first , BUT check that you use the correct f/w, there are 2 versions , one for the BT retail vesrsion and one for the unlocked versions.

Re: 2091 BT modem

The  Voyager 2100 router was provided by PlusNet in July 2005
The firmware is 2.18.01.17i dated 20/7/2007

Re: 2091 BT modem

That's the latest firmware i'm afraid.
Something that may be worth trying if you're up to a bit of techie work is to telnet into the router and use the CLI to investigate in more detail.
See here : http://www.kitz.co.uk/tute/voyager_2100_cli.htm
and here:- http://www.usr.com/support/9105/9105-files/cli_reference.html
You might be able to get more info from the Syslog as to what is happening when it tries but fails to reconnect.
I'm afraid i've not got any specific experience of the Voyager  routers but the reconnection to the ISP is usually associated with the 'ppp' or 'wan' configuration parameters.
Good luck.
