Hi
After I encouraged my mother to buy a laptop I told her that she should select Plusnet as her broadband supplier as that is who I use and I have always been very happy with them, unfortunately she is only getting a download speed of 1.1mb which seems very poor.
I have looked at it for her but I do not know much about these things.
Her connection has been live for about a month.
Here are some details:
From the router:
DSL Connection
Link Information
Uptime:
0 days, 0:38:08
DSL Type:
ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:
448 / 8.290
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]:
6,28 / 20,99
From the BT Speedtest
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 7.31 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.37Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps
And from Plusnet themselves
Telephone number: **************
Phone exchange:SCUNTHORPE
Estimated line speed:7Mb (This may vary between 5.5Mb and 12Mb) - Checked on 2012-08-31 16:11:16Current line speed: 1.1 Mb
I have changed filters and router and apart from a sudden surge to 7mb when i used a different filter there has been no difference in the line speed - this speed boost dropped back to normal as soon as the router was turned off again and no matter how often I swop filters i cant make it go up again.
Any advice would be greatley appreciated.

The 'Current Line Speed' (PlusNet's version of the line profile) is wrong and desperately needs to be updated as this is currently restricting the speed of the service.

What does the current line speed read now? It's showing as matching the BT Profile here so that's why you're seeing the correct speed now.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for replying.
Shortly after my last post I switched everything off and came home, which is where I am accessing the net from now.
I can take a couple of readings every day and post them here if that helps..

If you can post your router stats again then we can see what is going on.

Hi Chris,
A speed test this morning showed that my download speed was 5.11Mbps. This has dropped a little from the 6.00Mbps I was getting last night but is still a great improvement from the 1.1Mbps I was getting prior to my reporting it.
I expect it will drop to between 4 and 5 as it settles down ?
Here are my router stats as requested:
DSL Connection
Link Information
Uptime:
0 days, 1:30:40
DSL Type:
ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:
448 / 5.938
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]:
22,21 / 201,46
Thanks for your help.
I just noticed that my router reports the uptime as 0 days, 1:30:40 - this is a little confusing as i do not turn my router off.

The update looks like it was from your profile updating, it has disconnected then reconnected so your speeds can update
