0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

I am posting here out of desperation, we had some outages locally on Friday evening as a result our IP profile was dropped to 0.14Mbps resulting in extremely slow sluggish internet speed, I have been here before with this frankly annoying and ridiculous policy of lowering IP Profiles if outages are frequent, you know it is a REALLY really annoying thing to do and just prolongs the fault for the end user. Our connection seems to be stable again yet we have speed less than dial up that I am STILL paying for might I add!
The guy in technical support was useless and did not understand the link between IP Profile and speed so I am posting here in the hope someone will increase the IP Profile back to where it should be before I throw my laptop through the window!
Please HELP!
Thanks in advance.

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

Also from the bt wholesale speedtest site, this was done about an hour ago:
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download  Speed
0.05 Mbps

0 Mbps 0.25 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.05 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.25 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4.45 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.14 Mbps

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

OK
So you are on 20CN and it can take up to 3 days for the IP profile to increase and until it does Plusnet can't do anything
The IP Profile didn't drop because of the outages it did it because you had a very low sync rate when it happened
If this is a regular occurrence have you considered a UPS

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

That's the right information, though normally the PlusNET portal information would be useful too.
Given that you are ADSL (1) modulation I'm guessing you are on a 20CN service and out in the sticks.
The line synch is somewhat below what your line ought to be and having a SNRM of 15dB is indicative of big error history line management.
Is there any detail of copper line tests (CLT) results in your ticket history?
Is there noise on your phone line?  Dial 17070 option 2.
Is the router plugged into the master socket?

UPS - Uninterrupted Power Supply

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

Hi and welcome PembsPanther,
I'm really sorry that you feel you haven't been listened to.
Other forum members have explained ADSL and profiling so I won't go into detail about that.
I have checked your connection though and it's been very intermittent of late. This is the cause of the speeds you've experienced. We need to find the cause behind why this happens first of all. There is no point us changing any profiles (be it on our side or the bRAS profile with BT) for the connection to fall over again.
What are the results of the dial test that Townman asked for? Did you manage to try into the main socket?
Tony

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

Thanks for all the input guys much appreciated  Wink
I have not really got any further with this yet, after looking at wiring last night and finding out that our telephone was not ringing in I decided to have a quick look at connections etc after fiddling with some wiring in the BT Master socket the phone started to ring again but it comes and goes so I can only presume that at the very least I have a fault with the Bt Master socket so tomorrow I am going to replace it with one of these more modern jobbies and see if that quietens the noise on the line and gets the phone ringing again:

Internet still throttled to death hopefully this will go some way to fixing the whole issue.

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

Hi PembsPanther,
Thanks for the updates. Please let us know when you have a tried the new socket. Once you have a solid working phone line, the internet connection should be restored. Once you are confident this is resolved, let us know and we'll get the stability and speeds looked at (assuming they don't restore themselves).

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

Tony,
If there is a suspected fault with the master socket, is not (legal) rectification of that solely within BTOR's domain?  Is there an obligation on the CP to facilitate a repair?

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

Does the master socket have a removable lower half? If so, if you plug the phone ONLY in to the test socket inside do you still have an issue with the phone ringing intermittently?
If it doesn't have a removable lower half report the fault and wait for an engineers appointment. He should replace the master with a proper master with a test socket and if you are lucky will give you a proper BT filtered face plate for free. I wouldn't trust that one from Homebase.

Jim,
Not sure if you are advising the OP that this is not suitable as a replacement for the master socket or dismissing my observation because the OP does not intend to replace the master socket.

@PP & @CRT This is a job for BTOR.

Re: 0.14 MBPS IP Profile PN NOT Listening!

It isn't a replacement for a master socket - no capacitor for a start - it is a replacement for a secondary socket
