Which VoIP phone to buy?

I'm looking to switch from using X-lite softphone to a VoIP phone. I definitely need hands free, and would like the option of a headset. A reasonable size, easy to use phone book is also essential.
I'm considering the Grandstream GXP1400. Anyone any experience of using one of these on Plusnet?
Any other suggestions or comments?

Re: Which VoIP phone to buy?

I'm happy with my Gigaset N300A-IP, and I would suggest adding Gigaset C620h handsets - which do everything you've listed AND has multiple programmable answer-phones, plus anonymous caller blocking !.
The ONLY thing I'm not happy about the Gigaset system, is that it isn't IPv6 capable  Cry

Re: Which VoIP phone to buy?

I use a Yealink T22P in my home office and find that handsfree works very well.  I had a previous phone the the handsfree was awful so worth reading reviews etc on how well different phones perform in this area.

@purleigh
Nice kit but it's over double the price!
@pwatson
A bit more expensive but the big difference is 3 accounts instead of one on the Grandstream - I'm not ruling that one out. Are you using PoE or did you get a power supply?

Re: Which VoIP phone to buy?

I'm not using PoE - a suitable switch for this would cost far more than the PSU!
The Grandstream looks to have a good spec and it supports two SIP accounts. About the only negative feature I can spot is the lcd display doesn't have a backlight, but that may not be an issue for you?

You didn't mention your budget  Roll eyes
This is probably the wrong time of year to spend money on tech.
The Gigaset devices often come up as cheap bundles where if you buy a base station and handset (or more) you get another handset for free.

Re: Which VoIP phone to buy?

I have a Cisco 7970 VoIP phone that I always use on hands free and have no issues with the quality I also know bluetooth head sets are available for it as well, but as I don't use PN's VoIP service so could not comment on that aspect.

Re: Which VoIP phone to buy?

Just an alternative thought,  before I got my Gigaset VoIP phones,  we used our mobile phone handsets to do VoIP over WiFi.
If your mobiles are VoIP capable, or could be VoIP enabled with an 'app',  then it might cost you nothing, and you would only need to have one handset for both mobile and VoIP calls.

I use CSipSimple on my Android phones, works fine. In fact I bought a second cheap (£40) handset just to use as a voip phone & internet radio for when we're in Portugal.

My mobile phone is just that - a phone: Samsung B2710!
