VoIP Trial, call volume

Just had my first go with the new trial, seems to work fine and no connection problems, but there is the recurring problem of call volume.
Listening volume is fine, but the call recipient complained of being very quiet, and this is something I have had before with broadband phone.
It could be the equipment I'm using but with Skype the volume is plenty loud and no problems at all.  I have turned up the volume on my computer as far as I can and on the Xlite softphone as well.  I have tried with a professional quality microphone going through a M-Audio Firewire Solo interface and with a standard headphones and microphone and both are too quiet.  The levels are fine if I use another programme to record onto the computer so it seems to be specific to broadband phone.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Toby

Re: VoIP Trial, call volume

Hi mushroomwood,
Sorry for the late reply.
First of all we need to know the number you are dialing. We need this to have a look at the call routing and its carrier. Also we need to know is it a UK geographic, UK non-geo, mobile or International phone number?
Secondly, please ensure that you have all the up-to-date sound drivers for your relevant hardware.
Thanks,
Jake

Re: VoIP Trial, call volume

Jake
my turn to do a late reply.  There were two numbers (I don't want to post them here I'm afraid).  Both geographical, one an 0207 number and one an 01981 number.  I have the correct drivers for my hardware, I use it to make radio programmes for the BBC and there are no problems with it other than the low volume with Broadband phone.
I have had low volume problems before with Xlite which is part of the reason I gave up using it.
Thanks

Re: VoIP Trial, call volume

Just getting round to this issue, sorry its taken so long...
Can you answer these questions before we raise a case with Gradwell:
-Have you tried using another softphone to see if you can replicate the issue on a different softphone?
Try these:
XLite v2 (V3 does have some bugs in it but V2 seems to work better in some cases)
http://www.voipuser.org/forum_topic_6405.html
WENGOPHONE:
http://www.openwengo.org/
OR, SJPhone (recommended)
http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html
I suspect that this may be down to the audio encoding or decoding. Your guaranteed to get better call quality through a USB Headset device so if you have one then give that a go as well.
Please let us know your results, were eager to find out whats causing this one and we can then add the results to our knowledge base.
