Trust ST 1200 USB Adapter

No doubt a very basic question but I am only just starting to use the VoIP allowance I have with my account. Does anyone know if the Trust ST 1200 USB adapter would be suitable for connecting an existing phone to the computer?
I know I would still have to dial numbers via the computer keyboard but want to use a traditional handest (of which we have many). I am aware that the above unit would need an adapter for the BT plug as it comes with RJ11 sockets.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

NO , it will only work with Skype. It is not SIP compatible.
Have a look at this http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Analog+Telephone+Adapters for general info on voip adapters.
Granstream, Linksys/Sipura and Zoom have a range of fairly cheap ATA's that will work with Plusnet.
If you wish to use the phone as a dual phone i.e to make and receive calls via PSTN & Voip then you need an ATA with an FXO ( PSTN line) port as well as one or more FXS ( telephone) ports. I dont have a specific experience of any of the ATA's I'm afraid ( other than helping other on the forums to set them up ) as I use a Siemens DECT IP phone. Similar in function to an ATA  but it combines this with a DECT base station and handsets. Great if like me you needed to replace an ageing DECT phone anyway but not a cheap solution ( £60->£100+) if you already have some normal handsets around..
Shout up if you have more questions.

BTW here's a useful link so you can see more info and typical prices for ATA's

Re: Trust ST 1200 USB Adapter

Thanks guys for the info and links. The seller on eBay "thought"  it might work but his wording left me in doubt; glad I checked here.
I only want to use the handset for VoIP so will check out the links in detail. Thanks again.

Re: Trust ST 1200 USB Adapter

Amazon via one of their sellers have the Linksys/Supura at a very good price so am giving this a go. The link pages you gave have been helpful and interesting.

If  that's the SPA 2100 at £14.99 that looks VERY ( too ) cheap.

Re: Trust ST 1200 USB Adapter

If it is that company ( Trusted Goods ) then they are advertising the same units on ebay at £22.99
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LINKSYS-SPA-2100-VOIP-PHONE-ADAPTER-SIP-NEW-UNLOCKED_W0QQitemZ290291060386QQcm...
but at least they do say here that its UNLOCKED

Re: Trust ST 1200 USB Adapter

Yes it's the same one. Thanks for your input as you could have saved me some money. Strange it is cheaper via Amazon. I Trusted Goods a question last evening and have had no reply as yet. From experience, I find I usually get a reply within 24 hours or not at all which, then sets alarm bells ringing and I find another seller.
Looks like I am going to be using the headset for a while whilst I go into this in a bit more depth. I am in no desperate rush but want to get something reliable and fairly easy to set up.
Thanks again for the advice.
