PlusNet VOIP with Internet Calling

Is this trial going to consider being able to use PlusNet VOIP with Windows Mobile devices?
I have set-up the Internet Calling as detailed in other forums - but can not get it to work properly?
Is getting this kind of device to work within the remit of the trial

Cheers

Mike

Re: PlusNet VOIP with Internet Calling

We will certainly try to help Mike - It's not a success criteria for the trial, but it shouldn't be a problem to use any working voip kit.
What's the issue?

Re: PlusNet VOIP with Internet Calling

Thanks.
I will try and explain as best I can.
There is a feature that is available in WIndows Mobile 6 called internet calling. Sometimes removed from phones by mobile carriers, but addable back by installing wm6viop.cab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313686&highlight=wm6voip
This then needs configuring, there is a utility to do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303493
This gives the following parameters to fill in:
Description
Sip Server
Port
UserName
Password
I have completed these as follows
PlusNet
sip2.plus.net  (I have also tried nat.plus.net)
5082
My Trial account Username
And the password
After a soft reset, enabling wifi, setting "Internet Calling" to "Whenever Available" ... a small today plug-in should show that Internet Calling should show "Internet Caling: Available" -- all of this works and shows as it should.
Now when you come to make a call, when you have "Internet Calling Available" showing, when you go into the phone application, the normal carrier name should be replaced by the word in parameter "Description" above. In my case "PlusNet" -- it doesn't.
I suspect that the whole setup is not logging into plusnet at all and the parameters I have entered are incorrect.
I tried connecting only with this method in the last 2 days -- can you tell if a connection was made.
It's sort of similar to "fring" - there seem to be too few parameters to enter (maybe) to allow proper connection.
What do you think?
I am available for trialling from time to time, just email me.
Thanks

Re: PlusNet VOIP with Internet Calling

The thing about Voip is is depends a lot on your network config as to what settings you need. Is there an advanced settings screen anywhere? Being able to set your outbound proxy might be helpful...

Re: PlusNet VOIP with Internet Calling

Ian,
Thanks.
There are no other options on the configuration tool.
However there is a more lower level method, that in part requires the setting up of this bit of code:
<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="VoIP">
<parm name="SIPSettings"
   value="<provision key='1232ab01' name='_sip_provider_name_'>
             <provider name='_sip_provider_name_' />
             <user account='_account_' password='_password_'
                 uri='sip:_user@sip_host.com_'
                 allowedauth='digest'/>
             <sipsrv addr='_sip_proxy.com_' protocol='UDP' role='proxy'>
                <session party='First' type='pc2pc' />
                <session party='First' type='pc2ph' />
             </sipsrv>
             <sipsrv addr='_sip_registrar.com_' protocol='UDP' role='registrar'/>
          </provision>" />
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>
Where the guidance is to:
replace _sip_provider_name_ by your provider name,
_account_ and _password_ by your user name and password,
sip:_user@sip_host.com_ should be your SIP address,
_sip_proxy.com_ and _sip_registrar.com_ are your SIP proxy and registrar,
sometimes it's the same thing as your sip_host.com.
Sometimes not. It depends on your provider.
Does this make any sense or even help?
This came from a very long thread that I really struggle with !!

Re: PlusNet VOIP with Internet Calling

Hi Y'all
I got it working - a bit quiet though.
I dumped the configuration program and used cabarc with the following command:
cabarc N voip.cab _setup.xml
(which was copied to the pda and installed)
The important thing was the contents of the _setup.xml file

<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="VoIP">
<parm name="SIPSettings"
  value="<provision key='1232ab01' name='PlusNet Voip'>
            <provider name='PlusNet Voip' />
            <user account='xxxxxxx' password='yyyyyyy'
                uri='sip:xxxxxxx@sip2.plus.net'
                allowedauth='digest'/>
            <sipsrv addr='nat.plus.net:5082' protocol='UDP' role='proxy'>
                <session party='First' type='pc2pc' />
                <session party='First' type='pc2ph' />
            </sipsrv>
            <sipsrv addr='nat.plus.net:5082' protocol='UDP' role='registrar'/>
          </provision>" />
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>

Where xxxxxxx is my 7 digit account number
            yyyyyyy is the password given to me in the into email
Thanks for the pointer.
Anybody else want to do this and can't then please ask for more info

Mike
