PAP2T and Netgear DG834N Setup Issues

Hi,
having successfully got SJphone working I thought setting up the PAP2T would be a doddle.
The situation is that the PAP2T registers ... the green  telephone light on the PAP2T is solid. But, there is no dialing tone and numbers cannot be dialed. If I call my VoIP number the phone rings but lifting the phone is not recognized and then it transfers (as it should). I am about running out of ideas here.. I have forwarded the ports on the Netgear device without any effect.  I note some correspondents have simply set up the SIP connection on their PAP2T and it has worked out of the box... makes me very suspicious of what I am doing... perhaps making it too complicated?
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.  Software in the PAP2T is version 5.1.6(LS) and in the Netgear it is version V1.02.15
Further to the above information, below I show part of the Info information
Display Name: 760*****                                                  User ID: 760*****
Hook State: On                                                                          Registration State: Online
Last Registration At: 4/8/2010 14:12:20                          Next Registration In: 3568 s
Message Waiting: No                                                          Call Back Active: No
Last Called Number:                                                          Last Caller Number:
Mapped SIP Port:
Call 1 State: Idle                                                                          Call 2 State: Idle
Call 1 Tone: None                                                                  Call 2 Tone: None
Does this help anyone identify the problem?  It seems that I have successfully connected, but no communication is coming through the phone... no dial tone at all!

Thanks in advance.... in return when (and if) this works I shall publish the complete settings of the PAP2T and DG834N so that others do not need to spend a wasted weekend :-)

Re: PAP2T and Netgear DG834N Setup Issues

Well .... there was a stunning silence in terms of how to fix my problems.
As it happens, all of the above settings were correct, as were the port forwarding in the router. The problem turned out to be the old telephone from BT that I was using for tests. Once I switched to a modern product  all problems went away  :-)

Applied al lthe settings that were listed by Puddy ( many thanks) but couldn't receive incoming calls.
Found the answer on Linksys site. The "Use Outbound Proxy" box  has to be set to Yes
