Outbound Proxy vs STUN

Quote from: petergradwell
If you switch to using the new nat proxy: nat.plus.net:5082 then you don't need to use a stun server any more.

Peter
I've got as far as working out that using the outbound proxy means that STUN isn't necessary, but I don't know how it works or what the advantages are of using which of the various alternative methods of NAT transversal that are available.
Could you give a quick summary, or is there a handy explanation you could point us at?
Thanks
Simon
