Fon and openzone spots and voip calls

I have noticed a few people in my street are transmitting fon and openzone hotspots and it states its free to logon if you are a BT internet users/customer I know plusnet ore owned by BT do we get free access?
It would be great if we do because we would be able to make sip free voip calls wherever we can get a fon or openzone signal with not making calls over 3g hspda network

No, the only way to get free access is to join FON.
Also not all Openzones are free. Premier Openzones FON members still have to pay for. Premier Hotspots are the ones at airports, railway staions etc.

Also BT have screwed people joining FON in the UK as it's no longer possible to get cheap/free routers from FON. Believe the price for a router is around £29 but this does include free minutes to connect to Premium Openzones.
