Re: Broadband Phone outage?

Reset the password on both voip.plus.net & voip setting in router.
Internet seemed to be behaving oddly, though, coming and going. Rebooted router and all is working again.
Will monitor for a while since the net seems to be a bit flakier at the moment....

Puddy,
Thanks for testing & replying.
My VOIP setup is all working again after resetting the password and rebooting the router. Not sure which if those fixed it.

Re: Broadband Phone outage?

Or possibly not again.... ?
These are my router logs since I rebooted last night:
Jan 03 00:00:56 home.gateway:turbo_extEvtHandlerProc:none: ADSL line is UP!
Jan 03 00:01:11 home.gateway:turbo_extEvtHandlerProc:none: ADSL line is DOWN!
Jan 03 00:01:53 home.gateway:turbo_extEvtHandlerProc:none: ADSL line is UP!
Jan 03 00:02:02 home.gateway:ppp:none: Channel Id(0) connected
Jan 03 00:02:02 home.gateway:im_backend:none: Changed ipwan IP address to 8*.***.***.***
Jan 03 00:02:11 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 68*****
Aug 13 01:40:05 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 68*****
Aug 13 02:37:09 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 68*****
Aug 13 03:34:12 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 68*****
Aug 13 04:31:16 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 68*****
Aug 13 05:28:27 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Invalid Username/Password for phone 68*****
And nothing since.... it seems the invalid password has stopped the router re-connecting.
Also the internet seem very slow and flaky again this morning. My wife reports pages as taking several minutes to load, even after several refreshes and nothing happening, then suddenly they load properly at normal speed. I wonder if the two are related? Is it a DNS problem?
Invalid username & password is quite specific, but nothing has changed at this end, and it has been running rock solid for about a year (other than broadband outages!).
Has anyone one else seen any broadband phone outages this morning, even just temporary ones? My main concern here is the phone, hence the thread in this forum, but has anyone else seen broadband surfing issues this morning too? Just trying to work out if it is a DNS problem, a problem with my broadband or a problem at Gradwell.
Thanks for looking...
Mike

Re: Broadband Phone outage?

Ok.
My hunch was the password is right in my router, and also that my router itself is rock solid therefore it wasn't the router that needed the reboot. Instead, I wanted to test JUST the ADSL connection, so I pulled out my ADSL wire from the router for a minute (which obviously dropped my connection), then reconnected it, which reconnected my broadband. Up popped the internet, and so did my broadband phone!!! Sorted.
So maybe when confronted with a invalid username & password error, maybe my router stops re-trying the phone authentication? But that doesn't explain why the incidents have happened in the first place...
They can't be simple faults, as a the username & password must be talking to the correct box to get the failure message back.
If other have seen broadband disconnected emails last night around 11pm, then that would show Gradwell as having a fault around that time. It might have only lasted a couple of minutes, and therefore only be visible to those who tried to re-authenticate in that time window, so most users might not have seen the problem. My router logs the same thing happening around 5:30am, here the logs starting with the failure on I posted before.
Aug 13 05:28:27 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Invalid Username/Password for phone 68*****
Aug 13 10:36:48 home.gateway:turbo_extEvtHandlerProc:none: ADSL line is DOWN!
Aug 13 10:38:17 home.gateway:turbo_extEvtHandlerProc:none: ADSL line is UP!
Aug 13 10:38:20 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 68*****
Simply taking the ADSL down fixed the password fault. Router stayed powered on and running throughout.
When I reconnected, I am still on the same gateway as before:
"You are currently connected to the "City Lifeline, Juniper 11" gateway. This gateway is sometimes known as pcl-ag04. "
Anyone else see any broadband phone drops at either 11pm last night or 5:30am this morning?

Re: Broadband Phone outage?

OK. Just been nosing around Gradwell's website. Should have done that sooner I guess:
RESOLVED: th-mysqlsrv-2
10:20: There was a brief outage on our VoIP platform due to a database issue which has now been resolved.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
I'm guessing that explains it. Hopefully it is all working correctly again now.
