Broadband Phone being Phased Out

In a conversation today, with customer support, it was mentioned that Plusnet are phasing out their Broadband phone service.
In fact I was surprised to hear that it is no longer offered to new customers.
I had imagined that it was widely used,  particularly by business users.
This seems to me to be a backward step, or Is it something to do with the BT ownership of Plusnet?

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

I would of thought this was to be expected, as the excellent company Plusnet once was with their value added services such as free hosting and web space  with cgi  if you wanted etc are all going, voip was bound to be next. I have to say I have had my ups and downs with the voip (I am a business customer) but this was many due to contention at the local exchange - not pn.
I would suppose it is now the cheaper bb supplier to bt to get the lower end of the market with their tv campaigns.

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

It has been phased out for residential customers for some time, but it's still available for business customers as you can see https://www.plus.net/business/voip/

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

We're phasing it out?  Someone should probably tell me about that Wink
No it's not being phased out.  We don't do very much with it, but I don't have any plans to remove it?

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

Correct, it's not available for new signups but those that have it can still use it.

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

If it's not available for new signups, how come my Skype works?
I brought a headset and webcam for this stuff.

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

Skype is not the same as Broadband Phone, although in both cases it allows you to make voice contact over the internet. Broadband phone is effectively an additional PSTN line (except it isn't...)

Re: Broadband Phone being Phased Out

wayrall, what is been phased out is the PN supplied VoIP service for new residential customers.
The VoIP applications will work and there are plenty of other providers such as Sipgate and Gradwell.
No need to fear about things not working in the future Smiley
