Am I offline or online?

I am getting emails telling me I am offline when in fact I am still online.    I have noticed no "off lines" since I have been on the trial except for one power cut, one switching off of phone and one dns change.  I receive at least three or fours emails a week. 8860023@sip2.plus.net

Re: Am I offline or online?

I am seeing the same problem. I had received approximately 8 notification emails from December to being transferred to the new platform. Since being transferred to the new platform receive between 10 to 20 emails every day.

Re: Am I offline or online?

I have had the same.  What I think is happening is that I am being disconnected and then reconnected, but this reconnection doesn't always happen and I can only reconnect after changing the SIP port on my PAP2.
The list of disconnections is below:

Date          Time       Date        Time
05/03/2008 08:37:11 16/03/2008 18:57:26

Hardly a sign of reliability.

Re: Am I offline or online?

I went offline at 02:48 and I'm unable to reconnect either with my adapter or with Fring.

Re: Am I offline or online?

Just managed to register but when I checked on the voip portal my status was expired at 13:10 even though I did not register until 13:15. So look like Gradwell still have a time sync problem?
edit: just done a refresh on the portal page and it changed the expired time to 13:13 and this is after an email that stated that I connected at 13:15 and went offline at 13:18

Re: Am I offline or online?

I would like to add my account to this thread, as I am having the same problems.
Since last week, when it stopped working at all, I have signed up for the "gone offline email notifications".
Most days I am getting between 20 & 30 emails. Last Wed I got 47!!!, but strangely last Thurs I only got 3 emails, and Friday only 6! So it is as though the Servers got their time sync back but have drifted again!
Wed = 47 emails
Thurs = 3 emails
Fri = 6 emails
Sat = 19 emails
Sun = 22 emails
Mon = 26 emails so far and counting! (up until 14:30)
When I visit the status page on http://voip.plus.net it sometimes says I am online, and sometimes says I went offline at xx:xx
Looking at the corresponding logs on the VOIP router, I see that the sip service was successfully re-registered since the time reported that I supposedly went offilne (according to voip.plus.net & the emails). I am as far as I know successfully receiving all calls now, (since the problems last week).
Will changing the "expire time" help with this?
What are other people using in this field. I did have 600secs (eg 10mins)
With the issues last week I changed that to 300secs (5mins) as an experiment. I have seen people with as high as 2hours listed. I think on PlusNet's own old platform, I used to use 1hour.

Re: Am I offline or online?

With the Beta trial Gradwell forced the registration to 30 seconds even though users settings could be set to 3600 seconds. When looking at my expire time it seem that I have to refresh the registration every 60 seconds. Have change my setting to 30 and 120 seconds but the systems always seem to reset back to 60 seconds.

Re: Am I offline or online?

Back on line about 10am.  I have received 3 emails saying I have gone off line.  I have made a couple of long calls on the line and all seemed perfect.  I honestly dont know if it was offline or not, assuming it was momentarily

Re: Am I offline or online?

Your assumptions are absolutely correct, Gradwell have just informed me that they have found an ntp daemon on the newsip servers which had died which was causing the clocks to drift again, causing the logout issue to reoccur.
That's been corrected now, and a nagios monitor is being watched like a hawk.

That is interesting

That is interesting.
http://voip.plus.net says:
{my ip address} expired at 2008-04-07 16:10:14, logged into v-sip-1 (eg OFFLINE)
My router says:
Apr 07 16:10:05 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 684xxxx
I kept refreshing my router log, until a new registration took place, then looked at the voip site to compare (within secs later), but also kept refreshing voip site page, and the same expired as notice appeared for few mins afterwards. However it then started showing:
{my ip address} expires at 2008-04-07 16:15:07, logged into v-sip-1 (eg ONLINE)
However the next router logs (not for a few minutes) said:
Apr 07 16:15:00 home.gateway:sip_SipTransactionManager_?:none: SIP Registration successful for phone 684xxxx

So. My conclusion is:
My router is set to expire after 5 minutes currently. It seems to get success of the re-registering on the sip service at 4mins and 55secs after last successful registration (this is a repeating format in the logs). I'm not sure how long registration takes, but the router time stamps seem to conform success 4mins 55 secs after last reported success.
The voip.plus.net site appears to show my connection as OFFLINE for a couple of minutes after that registration happens, but then catches up and correctly displays the new registration, before declaring it OFFLINE again for a couple minutes after the next successful registration. The time stamps listed on the site agree with the router times. Since the router only registers every 4mins 55 secs, the reporting delay must be just that. A delay in the site's reporting! However, where the emails come from are a mystery, as I've only had one more "offline email" since my previous post. So maybe Gradwell have done something at their end, as the emails were very regular before that today. So despite being listed as OFFLINE about half the time (from what I can tell), the emails seems to agree with my router, that I am online all the time in the last 90mins of observation & testing.... unless the emails are on their way and were just delayed too!!! ;O)
So I think there might be two separate issues here. I think Gradwell have time server issue that has come back, but has recently be solved (about 90mins ago), hence the lack of emails.
Secondly, I think there are reporting errors on the voip.plus.com site, where it seems to take a couple of minutes for that site to catch up with the new registration. In the meantime it has decided since the last updated time has passed, and it thinks no new registration has arrived, that it must be now offline (when I am not), but corrects itself a few minutes later when informed of my new time. I think I am probably actually online the whole time (certainly in the last 90mins) hence no emails.
I might be wrong with all this... and in fact it could still all be time server differences!
My router is synced with uk.pool.ntp.org every 6 hours and seem very stable.

Around 15:00 would be my guess ;O)
Glad that is sorted. I will continue to watch, to see if the rest of my assumptions carry any weight too. In the meantime, has anyone else noticed that voip.plus.net is slow in reported a successful registration, and in the meantime show you as offline?
It looks like my setup is correctly working at 5min expiry time, so the 30secs or 60secs necessity doesn't apply. Can someone official confirm this?

Hi
1/ voip.plus.net is not a real time view of the phone platform - the information is sucked from the phone platform into the web front end every few minutes.
2/ If you're not using the NAT proxy, then yes, the 5 min expiry should be honoured.
thanks

Re: Am I offline or online?

Hi - Just got back from work to find 5 emails today, last one at 15:38.  I assume this is before
"Gradwell have just informed me that they have found an ntp daemon on the newsip servers which had died which was causing the clocks to drift again, causing the logout issue to reoccur.

whatever that all means!!!!.  So hopefully, it'll be all OK from now on
