would i be better off with wanadoo?

Hi

I currently have a 1MB broadband connection, and according to the plusnet usergroup tools, even on DSLMax when I get it, I will only get around 1.5MB (presumably because of the distance from the exchange).

However, according to samknows Wanadoo have LLU at my exchange, and the wanadoo website is saying they can give me a 3.5MB connection.

I like plus net and hve had great service from them, but if they can't give me faster speeds and someone else can, it will be difficult for me to justify staying with them.... can anyone advise if i'm right in thinking i will get a better connection with wanadoo?

Thanks

Matt

well to be honest wanadoo are offering me up to 8mb broadband, they say i will get around 4.5mb even though plus net say they havent upgraded yet. My next door neighbour has 4.5mb+ but he's with a different isp. I've had no problems with plus net but i wish up to 8mb would come available now!

As Wanadoo will be using the same BT wires between the exchange and your property then it is very unlikely that you will be able to get a faster connection with them.

Their 3.5M estimate is the maximum theoretical speed, based in the minimum line of site distance to the exchange, under idea SNR conditions.

Reality has shown that your line can only support 1.5M.

This may be different if Wanadoo are offering ADSL2.

Like Chilly said if the exchange is Wanadoo LLU enabled then there is a possibility you will get higher speeds.

You can find out here:

It looks like that even ADSL2 or ADSL2+ will not provide any significant speed increase.

Not necessarily, you will need to research what technology Wanadoo have installed in your exchange.

Even if it is ADSL2, then you will not see any significant speed increase.

One thing I find interesting about ADSL2+ is that if the upstream SNR is OK it is quite possible to get an upload speed of 1.3Mbps and Be* are looking to make 2+Mbps available soon! Wink
