what is VMU - does it record my broadband traffic volume

the FAQ on the policy announcement regarding Fair usage system
says that VMU is retained, but it doesn't explain what it is or how it's used.

I'm looking to see whether there are any volume and acessiblility statistics that are retained by plus.net that would help me diagnose what I beleive to be an intermittent problem with my netgear DG834g router.

if it showed that my line has no traffic but was usable for a certain period of time. then I could get close to proving the cause of the problem.

is broadband the same as "ADSL dial"?

BUt I guess that failure in a small part of the connection systemwould not show up in the statistics or reports shown there

PS the forum FAQ says that BBcode is explained in a guide accessible from the posting page.

The VMU tool only shows total bandwidth transferred on each day.

If you're getting connection dropouts etc... then your router log should explain why.... What problems are you experiencing?
N/A

It's also worth mentioning, that the fair usage policy has been dropped.

thanks for the replies

I now understand BBCode

I knew fair usage has stopped

I still don't know what VMU stands for but I can see it won't help me.

Further investiagtion indicates that the netgear router is locking up since the problem is solved by rebooting that.
But I have not yet found a way to get useful diagnostics from that system (netgear dg834gv2 - i'm asking them about that)

Question
is it possible that some rogue data or failing transmission on broadband is the cause of the lockup)

Thanks
