You must be running some sort of firewall,
you'll need to get to the firewall set - up
to become pingable. I would ignore that bit ,
or if you do become pingable to allow the tweak
test to measure ping then it's advisable to
reverse the change shortly after the test.

PS. if you need further help then post the link to the test result

download/use DRTCP .. (FAQ #57Cool
Read the tweak FAQ

Good data stream (no/few rexmits)

Become pingable
if you need basic packet loss tests done
Check tweak FAQ

just done this if it helps anyone

The results show you have a very good connection
with no packet loss (100% efficiency)
and very fast data transmit time.
I would look at the MTU tweak topic (sticky at top of this forum)
download and use DrTCP to experiment with MTU and RWIN
settings.
Your current RWIN setting is too high if you have a 512K or
1 Meg connection.
Many users have found an increase in speeds when lowering MTU
from 1500 so I wouldn't automatically assume that's good advice
without experimenting.(you current MTU is 145Cool

Hi
I think i,ve managed to download the Dr TCP thanks for your help certainly seems a lot faster thanks Pam

One thing to double check (take another tweak test)
after you change MTU/RWIN is that your modem
if the latest Binatone, might have a Max MTU of
1472, so you won't be able to use 1478.
If so then with DrTCP set 'Dial up MTU RAS' to 1472
and RWIN to 17184.

I,ve done the test again and i have the old binatone 2lights ADSL modemhttp://ttester.broadbandreports.com/tweak/block:1581694?service=isdn&speed=1.80&os=winXP&via=normal

Quick question :
Are you using ADSL and have a 512K connection ?
(tweak test says ISDN, want to be sure before commenting)

i,m on the 10x faster easy install package so yes tour questions i think you.ll wish you hadnt answered me as ive had so any prob with my modem these last two weeks i nearly banging my head against a brick wall most mornings when i go to conect the 2arrows on my task bark turn red and says modem not responding the only way to connect is to unplug the usb and then plug it in again and then windows recognizes it but for the last two days its been working fine connecting straight away .I emailed binatone they said its sounds like a power issue which i dont see as i,ve made no changes or upgrades thats when i tried a different avenue but the speed is better now than i was getting Pam

tweak test

OK no problem Smiley
Download DrTCP201
Unzip (if zipped) and save file to hard disk eg in 'My documents'
Doule click and open the file DrTCP.exe.
In the window 'TCPreceive' type the value 17256
Window scaling = Default
Time stamping = Default
Selective acks = Default
Dial up RAS MTU = 1478 (type in this value)
Path MTU discovery = Default
Black hole detection = Default
Max duplicate acks = 2
TTL = 64
In the box 'Adapter setting' see if your Binatone modem is listed
and type the value 1478 in the adjacent box MTU,if not listed ignore
this value leave box blank.
Then press save, exit and then re-boot your pc (restart).
Take another tweak test and post the link.
Alec.
Allso note that your modem requires service pack 1 to work best.

tweak test

Hi
My modem is working fine now fingers crossed , done the tweak settings as suggested to me and things were great , this evening speeds are slow been on the adsl guide and this is the speeds im gettingDirection
Actual Speed
True Speed (estimated)

Downstream 465 Kbps (58.1 KB/sec) 502 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 246 Kbps (30.8 KB/sec) 265 Kbps (inc. overheads)

'Actual Speed' is the amount of useful data that your connection can transmit/receive
any help or is this the problems plusnet are having which everyone seems to be talking of
N/A

tweak test

Hi, that's still a pretty good speedtest result
for ADSLguide. It's only roughly 10Kb down on the very
highest speeds obtained on that speedtest for 512Kb lines.
Your line speed includes an amount for 'overheads', if you
can achieve anywhere near your line speed on the
estimated result then that's good.
Also you need to take into account contention, your
sharing your line with other users so you won't always
get the highest speeds especially at peak times.
The problems encountered with peoples web-sites,
which are detailed on other threads and Plusnet's
service status announcements won't really have any impact
on speedtests.
