Please refrain from cross-posting this. The one in the ideas forum was especialy annoying as you couldn't even class it as a valid place to post.

As for your problem. When youy perform the WinMTR test above, did you leave your computer to it, or did you occasionaly visit a website in another browser?

Do you have any P2P applications, or any other software that may have downloaded somthing in the time being?

As I commented when you posted the above before, I see nothing wrong with the average ping times.

the avg's are ok but you are getting high pings, which suggests something is actively online in the background to make the trace corrupted.

You should be seeing the avg ping with highs and lows of 10 plus or 10 minus the avg. If nothing is working in the brackground then something is up. I am in the same fault finding process as you, as I have been getting packetloss on PN routers and ruling out a too high a MTU figure just now.

So would suggest as I am doing, try the lower MTU figures and related Rwin figures.

atm my router & lan cards are on:

MTU: 1438
Rwin: 12942

Normally on 1500 / 13500 but the last 2 weeks there has been noticable intermitant packetloss.

looks like im cancelling plusnet then if you say them pings are normal
i have 2 computers here both get the same ping times seperately turned on
what are the figures you put in and where do i put them?
i play online gamming mohaa and have had 20 ping great
but now over 50 this is no good and i will look elsewhere if its not sorted
pings have doubled and you think its okay ?

I have seen you state very little so far on the actions you have taken to proove this is a PlusNet issue.

People these days seem very quick to blame there ISP, when there are thousands of issues that could happen before the ISP even gets to see you data. Many of those are in your own property.

Back to the data.

The first two hops give a lot of information.

1: No packet loss.
2: Very respectable pings - BT don't class them as a problem until over 60ms IIRC
3: A high max ping time, showing at least 1 packet was slow.

The first hop is your own router/modem. The second is one of the Redback units. What these don't show you is the whole host of equipment BT use inbetween hop 1 and 2. This could easily be at fault.

Sorry to say, but if it is the BT equipment at fault, you could only be suffering the same issues by switching ISPs.

hi
been on the phone and plusnet actually agree thier is a fault now
now why dident you agree in the first place instead of the you know what

There was a very good reason why I only quoted the two hops. If you don't understand why I only did these two, then you should stop quoting traces as the almight proof of an issue.

Traceroute map the route your traffic takes to the destination. If gives average ping times to each hop.

So far, every hop in that trace gives clear results. The max ping time is very high yes, however, data does this.

As for packet loss, 4 packets in 1260 is absolutely nothing. The higher loss occurs in JANET whihc is not under the control of PlusNet.

The first hop outside of the PlusNet network shows an average round trip time of 29ms. As stated, people would die for results like that.

I sugest you start to udnerstand what the results mean before you attempt to have a go at me.

hi
i aint having a go at you you dont listen thier is a fault
N/A

But from the limited information you have given, it doesn't show one.

I don't disagree there may be a fault, but you seem to think what you have posted does show one.

Not trying to interfere here and not knowing much about traceroutes have just done a trace on my 512 standard connection. My results do seem significantly different (to me anyway) to that of 'dozer' ? Have to add I have no problems with my connection although I do not tend to play online games.

You seem to have two threads on the go... which is entirely confusing particularly has has been pointed out - your traceroutes do not show what you are talking about!
