RE: my broadband is slower than dial up

You must have read my mind. I'm fed up know, Almost same spec system as you and my web pages are taking so long its unusable. I've contacted +net, sent tracert results etc and all the times seem ok but my page load times are taking as long as it takes to drink two cup's of tea.

Help anyone, I'm using IE6 SP 1.

What results do you guys get from the speed tester in the "My Connection" area of the portal?

With the old test meter as follows

PlusNET Technologies Bandwidth Meter

Your current bandwidth reading is:

37.00kbps

which means you can download at 4.63 KB/sec. from our servers.

37 kbps YOU
53.3 kbps 56k Dial Up
64 kbps ISDN 1 Channel
128 kbps ISDN Dual Channel
500 kbps ADSL 500
1000 kbps ADSL 1000
2000 kbps ADSL 2000

With the new file download meter as follows

PlusNet Bandwidth Meter

Your current bandwidth reading is:

455.20kbps

Which means you can download at 56.9 KB/sec. from our servers.

53.3 kbps 56k Dial Up
64 kbps ISDN 1 Channel
128 kbps ISDN Dual Channel
455.2 kbps YOU
500 kbps ADSL 500
1000 kbps ADSL 1000
2000 kbps ADSL 2000

I don't understand it, all I know is my web pages take forever to load.

RE: my broadband is slower than dial up

Im also suffering slowdown although it isnt much, a drop of about 80kbps, i normally get around 460kbps, but i did notice it i must be sensitive or something Smiley

Here are my readouts, useing +Nets own speed test to its servers and also adslguides speed test giveing the slightly larger picture to the UK end of the internet.

+Net Bandwidth Meter
383.20kbps
Which means you can download at 47.9 KB/sec. from our servers.

Adslguide
Downstream
373 Kbps (46.6 KB/sec)
402 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream
240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec)
259 Kbps (inc. overheads)

The downstream throughputs are very similar with the
web only slightly slower than my feed to +Net which seems to me that somewhere between me and +Net servers is the bottleneck point in the link if the adslguide test is to be believed.

My network settings have been tweaked under Win2k and Linux for MTU=1458.

Hope info helps
