getting 1/8th of my speed

I went to plusnet thinking they had great speeds for only 21.99 a month on broadband premier, im getting less than 1mbps ... http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ reported 935down and 200 or so up which i am really disapointed at because downloads run at around 100kb which i had over two years ago with telewest. So i want to know what is wrong and why arent i getting the speeds i pay for??

edit: bt speedtest gave me this
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1344 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 918 kbps

WHY IS MY LINE CONFIGURED TO 1000KBPS Sad

Because that is all your line will support given your synch rate.
Either you are a very long way from the exchange or you have got problems with the connection (either your system or BT's)
Can you post the attenuation and noise margin figures from your router or modem which may give us an idea

With a line attenuation of 62dB's your are very lucky to see a sync speed as fast as 1.344 Mb.

Under the earlier IPstream you would have been limited to 512K.

Here are my figures:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1022 kbps (127.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 368 kbps (46 KB/sec transfer rate)

ADSL Link
Connection Speed (Downstream) 8128 kbps (Upstream) 448 kbps
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 6 db (Upstream) 2 db
Noise Margin (Downstream) 10 db (Upstream) 20 db

I don't see anything lucky about any of it myself.
End users shouldn't have to be capable of gathering this sort of information.

My mother would pass out if she was asked for these figures.
I guess she'd have to just put up with a shabby service because she wasn't smart enough to understand.

getting 1/8th of my speed

It is just possible that you have a BT installed filter on your line. See this thread for more details:

@dayweavers

Can you do the BT Speedtest at http://speedtester.bt.com - it will show the IP Profile that BT have set for your line.

bt have set an ip profile of 1000kbps

Is there anywhere else apart from by the master socket i can find this filter? I shouldn't be far from an exchange.. I live in the west midlands which is only a few miles from Birmingham and my house was only built in may last year (moved in in november/december) I already had a phone socket but it was not physically wired in.

I'll have a look for this when i get home

EDIT: I also have a wireless alarm and doorbell, now the alarm man said the wireless alarm MAY cause problems with the wireless net i run, but there has been no interference at all..

EDIT AGAIN: im only 2.95 kilometres from the exchange... so that cant be the problem, its in the same area as where i live same with the line im on which has always gone as fast as it should

Line tester gave me this

Your line is capable of 3 Mbps or above.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 951 kbps

Before Christmas it was certainly up and around the 4.8/5mbps mark.

He may well be wrong as the BT test supposedly bypasses PlusNet so you may have a serious exchange contention problem
