feedback noise

DSL link connection dropping yesterday & again today , when I lift the nearby phone receiver an inch or so I get a feedback whistle . I get this every now & again, mostly weekends . Is the DSL link dropping a BT fault or could it be a problem my end or duff filter etc.

I would suspect the filter as there is clearly some noise being generated to cause the feedback.

When this happens, do you hear and hissing or high pitched noises on the phone that generates the feedback?

feedback noise

the whistle is only when I lift the receiver an inch, above that & it stops & tthe dialtone is still there as normal with no hissing etc.
thought it might be faulty phone ( its a fax ) but unplugging it makes no difference to line dropping

Very strange then. I can't see how a dialtone would cause feedback so could be a funny fax machine.

In any case even feedback should not cause an ADSL line drop as it's still in the voice frequency range, not the ADSL frequency range.

What ADSL filters are you using on yur ADSL equipment?

Do you know your line attenuation and SNR?
