charged for upgrading again!!!!!

i was looking to upgrade to 2mb i upgraded from 512kb to 1mb 4 mnths ago and i was charged an extra £7.49 for modem chargesHuhwhich i thought would have been in the 512kb price anyway.the same is happening with the 2mb its £39.99 but i would have to pay £47.49 as im an existing customer. i only have one more month of my contract and i think i may just go elsewhere.just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.ive spoke to plusnet advisers and they all say the same "im paying the extra for the modem and connection fee's"even though i payed the connection fee upfront.any other isp recommendations would be useful too

thanks

charged for upgrading again!!!!!

What was the name of your original 512K product? Was it Easystat 512K or ADSL home 512K .

Can you remember what you paid for the actvation fee and can you remember what the price PlusNet were charging for the ADSL hardware you are using?

Ok, you signed up for Easystart 512K on 01/05/04, which had a 12 month minimum contract (this is important as explained later). Your initial charge of £36.68 was £24.99 (your normal monthly payment) + Post & Packing for the modem being delivered to you ( £11.69).

You continued paying £24.99 for Easystart 512K for the next 7 months.

2366438 £14.99 £0.00 05/12/2004 Fully Paid Automated Regrade Fee

On 5/12/04, you requested an upgrade to broadband home premier 1Mb (which costs £29.99/month) and you paid the £14.99 upgrade fee because it was a speed change.

2388643 £24.99 £0.00 10/12/2004 Fully Paid Account Billing (2004-12-10 to 2005-01-09)

On 10/12/04 your normal monthly fee for Easystart was taken (£24.99) because your upgrade had not been completed yet.

This is where things start getting complicated... Because you have changed from Easystart to another product, you have to pay £7.50/month for each of the remaining months of your initial 12 month contract. So £7.50 is added to every monthly fee This is expained in Residential Upgrade Price List, see the 3rd table and the * note below it indicating a £7.50/month charge if you change from Easystart before your 12 months are completed.

On 13/12/04 your upgrade to premier 1Mb was completed. You also paid an additional £11.51. This is made up of £7.50 (as explained above) + £4.01 which is the extra cost of supplying a 1Mb connection for the remaining days left in the billing period. Remember, you always pay in advance for ADSL

On 10/01/05 & 11/02/05 you paid the monthly fee due for a premier 1Mb (£29.99) + £7.50 as explained above totalling £37.49.

Yes I did.

when i upgraded to 1mbi was charged £11 or there abouts im sure it was 512k home and that it was a free modem.

I explain this £11.51 costs above
Quote
i really cant see why im paying £37.50 for my 1mb

Because you changed from Easystart before your 12 months were completed, an additional £7.50 is added to each of the remaining payments until 2 months have been completed.
Quote
and that id have to pay £47.50 for 2mb when new comers get it cheaper.

Again, because you left easystart, £7.50 is added to any new monthly payment so if you changed to premier 2Mb now, you would pay £39.99 + £7.50 = £47.49 for the remainder of your 12 month contact. New customers weren't on Easystart so don;t have to pay the additional £7/50/month as you do.

Easystart was a special offer product which had conditions if you left it early.

Remember, you only pay the additional £7.50 until you complete 12 months. So you only have one more £7.50 payment (If my calculations are correct) and after that, your monthly fee will reduce to the normal £29.99 for premier 1Mb.

Also I would wait until April before doing any more speed upgrades as you are likely to get a speed upgrade for free (subject to your line supporting 2Mbs speeds).
