With a router it was good as when you was on the pc is kept your connection is there a way with a usb modem to make it do the same when the pc is connected ?

put the DUN icon in the startup folder so its connected on rebooting or assign a key combo to the icon, thats what I did for my PCI modem

You can do this in XP using RASDIAL from the command line. If you put the commands into a .cmd script file you can then use the management console to invoke the script on logon or system startup depending on whether you want a WAN connection established before you log-on. This will work in 2000/NT as well.

The syntax for rasdial if used in a script file is as follows:

rasdial "connection name" "username" "password"

Note The connection name is the name of the connection you have already set-up in dial-up networking.
