"As you may be aware, over the last few months BT have highlighted
certain performance issues across the ADSL network.

After a period of investigation, it was deemed that these issues arose
from a misconfiguration of certain hardware on the BT network. This
equipment was responsible for routing your connection through to your
ISP.

Several "fixes" have been made available to the public both by BT and
third parties. These worked by adjusting the "MTU" value of the user's
networking settings. This broke down the data into smaller chunks
resulting in reduced load on the BT network.

BT have taken action based on feedback from users and ISPs regarding
this matter and over the last month have been systematically isolating
and resolving these problems, resulting in periods of intermittant
connectivity out of peak time. This work has since been completed
successfully.

You can check your current speed by visiting our Speed Tester on our
portal website. The URL is as follows:

http://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=bandwidth_test

If you are not happy with the speed of your connection we recommend that
you ensure that your settings are at the defaults.

Customers who have changed their MTU manually using connection tweaking
tools should change their settings back to the defaults to receive
optimal performance from their broadband connection.

If you have used the tool we have made available on our portal website
you can run the same application again to restore your settings to the
default.

The tweaking tool on the portal is available at the link below:

Kind Regards,

PlusNet Customer Support.

Running on Windows XP

Adjusting: WAN Miniport (IP)
Maxmimum Transmision Unit (MTU)
Old = 1458
New = 1458
Nothing changed!

Adjusting: 1394 Connection (1394 Net Adapter)
Maxmimum Transmision Unit (MTU)
Old = 1458
New = 1458
Nothing changed!

it requires a reboot for the changes to take place on a PCI modem, so you wouldn't see any change

Ooo err. I delted the tool last time I used it to tweak the connection, now I want to UN-tweak the connection as Plusnet said, I downloaded it again and it won't undo changes it just goes to tweak them once more. It forgot! Tongue Nah where does the changes.txt go so it recognises the changes it once made suposed to go?

The default RWIN may not be appropriate for ADSL. Have a look at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/tweaks/all.
